Description Pagan gods and goddesses, tribal ancestors, those who worshiped them became known as “fairies” in the tradition of France, Germany, and Britain. The Welsh would even come to recognize them as the Mothers Blessing, and hence forth fairy land became the land of women.  In many stories fairies are tiny creatures with wings. Dragonflies? Why not. Butterflies? Sure. However they also hold up a promising myth of magical power and their characteristic style is mainly mischievous. They hold a strong liking for dancing and singing, and in fact there is a myth that goes strongly with such things. If a human can sing or play an instrument more beautiful then the fairies themselves, then they can “sing” or “play” the fairies out of their hiding places. Yet still this is just a myth. Apart from just calling them fairy, we also call them Fay, or Fae. Not to be confused with Morgan le Fay, although there has been much speculation over her.
Not unusual hat these small human like beings with special abilities should be announced or searched for much of the time on the most strange, and in some places sacred, day of the year Halloween. They Fae would come from their homes, hills, hideaways, and pagan sidh on hallows eve. This told by Celtic folk, their belief being that their homes of “fairy hills” where tomb-wombs of rebirth as recorded by ancient belief. Hallows Eve being the new name (day) for Samhain- meaning “summers end”- when the dead returned to earth with help from priestesses, later named witches. However, even later with the influence of the Christian church, Cornish miners would refuse to make the sign of the cross in the mines out of fear of offending the Fae in their own home. Even more unusual was the views of normal human life through the eyes of Fae. One is being sexuality. Of a religious structure one of the most attractive was its “permissive view of sexuality”. Fairy land became the heaven of beautiful (sexy) angles. The Torelore in the romance of Auccassin and Nicolette was the fairy land for lovers. As weird as it gets why not just use the following term “women wear the pants in this family” The fairy king would lie in bed and pretend to give birth to a child, while the fairy queen  would lead and army to battle using weapons such as apples, eggs… and  cheese. Verily odd indeed, but then again what isn’t strange about these mythical creatures.  And yet more stories keep popping up as faries were once known as women with special abilities. Women with ESP, or just open minds, or maybe named witches? Or mayhap these women were practicing heathen rituals. If fact fairy stories, myths and facts have come far in this world, that once could dig up everything from books and internet research and create their own small library bares on only, well, fairies.
Apart from their history fairies very in many forms and shapes according to the stories. From such stories a new look arrives on fairies themselves. Now they live in organized cities with a court and fairy royalty. They rode small dragons, bugs, and birds. They owned their own realm which the fairy queen described as “the land of the ever living… where there s neither sin nor death, nor transgression…” (Quoted) They had castles fought against each other. There were fairies that darkened your door way and many who blessed it.  There were Los Auluxes, Goblins (leprechauns in Ireland), elves (Scandinavian fairies), sidhe, sprites and dryads and sylphs and undines are all spirit fairies, there are tree fairies, garden fairies, rock fairies, fire fairies, and the gruesome pranksters the Fir Darrig. And last but certainly not least, the Asrai fairies, so delicate that when captured or exposed to sunlight they melt into a pool of water.
