Wow, my first deviantart submission. Crappy huh? Okay, so I'm my own worst critic. Not that unusual. But seriously, I'm an amateur, and I know it.The character is nothing special, just something I found myself doodling over and over in the margins of my notebooks and sketchbooks, so I decided to try drawing her larger to see if I couldn't refine the design. Twice. Voila! This was the MUCH better version. Drawn with an ebony black design pencil, Sharpe's for the color, and the outline was a Bic marker. If I had to do anything over, it would be the outline which was a bit rougher than I had hoped it woud be. Oh, and it would be in three quarter profile. 'Cause, you know, its more challenging.
So tell me what you think! I'm not that good at drawing people, so feel free to be mean and point out every flaw. Technique, composition, proportions... I'd love constructive criticism.

This is pretty good, so I'm definately seeing some improvement here. The only thing is that the character's shoulders require a more natural slope. You might want to perfect your lineart in Gimp, but I don't think you'd like to emulate a lot of digital art, so nevermind.

Thanks!
Yeah, I'm aware of the problem with the shoulders. I always mess up the shoulders. Thanks though.
On digital art: mostly I just find digital coloring to look bland and lifeless. Maybe it is because it always manages to look _so_ perfect that you can't tell that a human did it. Maybe because even Corel painter (which strives to reproduce the effects of natural mediums) still looks distinct from an actual painting (Perhaps its the color range...).
Or maybe its just overused. I dunno.
There is also the small problem that in order to do decent digital art you absolutely _must_ have a drawing tablet, which I cannot afford right now. Well okay, you _can_ use a mouse, but it feels awkward and unnatural. I've tried it.
Of course, there is one exception: for some reason, typography art like ASCII and ANSI drawings always manage to grab my attention with their advanced primitiveness, but as yet I cannot duplicate the techniques used to make them. Maybe sometime in the future...
Wow, that was a long response. I bet that's more characters than most people will type in a day on these parts!
