He probably is, he's a viking, he's supposed to be strong, not weak and sick, he needs to help his village learn about dragons and teach them how to co-exist, and having Jack there, seeing him and holding him like a fragile object probably is embarrassing, but he was keeping him cool, so he let him. Hiccup knows when to accept help, and he probably also won't admit that inside felt a little nicer to know that Jack didn't care for what a viking is suppose to be, but about Hiccup and who He is.
