Alright, sure, the spell didn't exactly work as intended, but John was a smart young man who knew how to accept he had gone in over his head, and hey, the most important part about mistakes is that we can learn from them! So once he got home, he'd take that cute rabbit pin he had been meaning to use on one of the girls bullying his friends and put it away somewhere within his bedroom. There was really no chance someone as careful as him would have unknowingly dropped a dangerous and untested magic item where his mother could see it.
Absolutely no chance.
