Description
For whatever reason recently I've strayed away from my normal cool blue preferences and embraced the red power color, and I particularly like this piece for a few reasons. The first would be because I didn't concern myself with anatomical correctness with my illustration, I wanted to acheive a the mood of a powerful body brought down in pain. Also, the fact that this is basically a sketch (i basically just grabbed my wacom and started putting lines down) I think allows the lines to speak more individually than as a whole form. And finally because it is color lines upon a black background, I find that it has a certain eye catching pop behind it, especially with the subtle white included.I've also begun to realize that my pieces are generally narrative in some manner or another, or at least i always have a scene in mind I'm trying to depict. So with that in mind, I would describe the Red Angel as a young warrior who fights a seemingly hopeless cause. He prays for the power to win the fight, and his prayers are answered, though he realizes in this painful moment the pain and sacrifice having such power requires. As his wings emmerge, are they too heavy for him to hold up, as he collapses to the ground? Or is he shaking the initial shock and regaining his composure, preparing to stand and fight renewed? I leave that up to your interpretation.

I'm writing a book, and am not exactly a great artist myself, so I've been wandering deviantart for potential cover art. Your piece caught my eye, along with a few others, and I would like to ask if I may use it (with some edits, manipulations, etc, I'm not sure what exactly I would do to it yet).
I can't and won't use it without your permission, and will give you full credit and a link to both the deviation and your page if I do use it.
There are some other pieces of art I would like to use, so even if you give me permission, it won't necessarily be the cover of my novel.
Also, this book will potentially be sold for profit, and, if you really feel it's necessary, we could discuss splitting the profits fairly (which does NOT equate to half and half).
Please get back to me as soon as possible, as this little project of mine has a due date.

Well I'm flattered that you'd like to use my art for your project, but this piece was never intended to be a book cover, and I'd rather it not be manipulated to try and be such. If you wanted to commission a new piece of artwork for your cover I'd be more than happy to work something out on that front, but I can't allow this work to be used for something it wasn't intended to be used for.

^^ Thank you for responding so quickly. I understand. I'll find a different illustration, then.

This piece has a very nice feel to it. It definitely gives the emotion of pain and sadness.
