Description

Spanning from the northernmost to the southernmost points of Ameriga, from the rainforests of the Amazon to the soaring heights of Aconcagua, encompassing both vast wilderness and bustling metropolises, the Inca nation is one of startling geographic diversity. This heterogeneity is also reflected in the vast assemblage of ethno-linguistic groups which collectively make up the people of Tawantinsuyu. The 1955 census recorded more than 200 distinct ethnic groups. Here, eleven are featured, chosen for cultural, economic and population importance, although it is but a small slice of the people of Tawantinsuyu.

Although now the Incan nation is one of 120 million people and the greatest power on the Amerigan Continent, this was not always the case. Although the Inca Empire survived the initial European onslaught, it was severely weakened by the loss of the northern provinces including the sacred capital Cusco, and the influx of foreign disease causing havoc on the remaining population. Nevertheless, assistance from the Ango-French monarchy and Qingqu city-states in western Arcadia ensured the nation’s survival. During the 18th century, the Inca nation began the slow process of modernization, culminating in the recovery of the northern provinces during the chaotic Colombian independence wars, the integration of New Granda and the ascension of Pachacuti II. During the latter half of the 19th century, the Inca Empire transformed into one of the world’s premiere industrial powers, building both the Suez and Andagoya canals and becoming one of the primary destinations for European immigration due to the nation’s liberal policies.

Today, the Incan nation is both a preserver of indigenous Amerigan culture and a great mixing pot of immigrant cultures from all around the world. Nineteen languages are used to some official capacity by both state and federal offices, but three predominant throughout the nation: Quechua, Aymara, and Spanish. The Inca people enjoy one of the highest standards of living in the world, and the nation regularly sits on major world forums.Although problems persist such as growing inequality, lingering discrimination against maginialized groups, and the increasing homogenization of the nation threatening distinct cultures,  Tawantinsuyu looks to have a bright future as the guardian of the Amergian continent.

OOC: In the vein of the famed National Geographic map, “ Peoples of the Soviet Union”, and inspired by both Golden Hope's  and History Nerd’s fantastic maps, here is my take: the People of Tawantinsuyu (the Inca Empire)! This is based on my own playthrough of the great Divergences of Darkness mod for Victoria II , and some original research I did over the last few days. The ethnic borders are in no way authoritative, I apologize for any mistakes (which there surely are). Hope you guys enjoy!

EDIT: Just pumped the resolution to full quality, wasn't aware it was so pixelated. Thanks for pointing it out, guys!
EDIT: put up new version correcting spelling and other errors.

Well Paraguay isn't actually majority Guarani, it's >90% Mestizo by race. Guarani language has managed to survive because the influence of the Church was heavily restricted which usually controlled the schools. Without the Church, Nheengatu not Portuguese would have been the most spoken language of Brazil. If anything Paraguay has actively persecuted Amerindian tribes in the Gran Chaco region and almost wiped out the ache tribe.
A Paraguayan or any Latino for that matter would feel insulted if you call them an Indian in Spanish, in English however they would speak differently to get brownie points. The modern-day Latinos are no more Amerindians than the Turks are Trojans. If anything they are the most active persecutors more so than the Anglo-Europeans in North America(because they at least acknowledge the wrongs).
