No, you don't sound stupid--it's just what you have to do after you make a change in certain video software programs (blurring, distortion, rearranging etc.)--it doesn't take long to make the change on your control panel, but for that change to actually be processed so you can save, you have to "render it" and that can take HOURS. Sorry, it's kind of difficult to explain without final cut pro in front of me...
Man, though, on a separate note, I wish I actually had a camera/video camera. *longing*
