Description
it was a rainy day in his apartment in Rittenhouse square and he just sat and read a book while I sketched with watercolor. I used a lot of water and enjoyed how it flowed.I need to find more people to sketch..
quote I wrote on the back reads:
"The gates of hell are open night and day;
Smooth the descent, and easy is the way,
But to return and view the cheerful skies,
In this the task and mighty labour lies"

There's something about his neck and chin area--the way you've handled it--that really gets me but I can't help but feel like something's missing--but then that could contribute to the "feel"...

the feel for me: is a kind of illustration of how I was feeling sitting comfortable on a couch with the rain falling down next to me and the waterfall in the courtyard.
The bottom part is a direct contrast to the top of him which is full of bold lines and concrete color splashes.
I really enjoyed making this in the way I did..
I'm guessing that the reason that you probably feel that something is missing are the gouache blue that I put on the back of his neck.
I'm a fan of color splashes but I suppose that I'm not skilled enough to be able to really really think about my composition before I use them... hmm
