Description Quetzalcoatlus northropi(juvenile), the largest flying animal that ever lived. Discovered in Big Bend National Park in 1971, this flying reptile had a wingspan in excess of 40 feet. The scientific name is a combination of ancient and modern symbols of flight, honoring the fabled Aztec plumed serpent god Quetzalcoatl and aircraft designer John Northrop.

Gorgeous sculpture and gorgeous setting; you just want to sit and wait for it to reach down and snatch a fish

Thanks! You may be sitting for a while... the shot was taken on my parent's farm about 90 miles outside of St. Louis. As a kid I imagined dinosaurs roaming those creeks and forests, as an adult I suppose I still carry those fantasies (only know I can share them with my children).

The best part of sculpting is actually having sculpted, sitting back, enjoying the piece, and sharing it with others.

This shot was taken at the creek where I spent many hours as a child... its much quieter there now!
