In my headcanon, Discord didn’t give any logic to Screwball when he created her, so she isn’t able to understand one single thing, to make a comprehensible sentence or to learn the real names of objects. However, she can “feel” some things, like when the other ponies around her love her, so she never feels lonely.Related content

You know, after thinking about this for a moment, this is really sweet for a non-obvious reason. Screw Ball isn't saying that she thinks Flutters is her mom. She's not calling objects random things, she is calling them by names that make a certain kind of sense, just in a roundabout way. A book isn't LITERALLY a window, but it's a saying that it's a window to another world. So she's not saying Flutters is LITERALLY her mom, she's saying that, if you apply a roundabout sort of logic, she's like a mom. She's caring, and nurturing, and kind.

I like to think there is an insane but ultimately concrete foundation to Screwball's logic. Spend enough time with her and you can figure it out eventually. Like understanding your own Pokemon's speech.

Um, yeah. Pinky is actually the genius. Who's the one doing the same thing over, and over, and over again expecting a different result? Pinky knows what he's doing, he lacks Brains ambition.

My point was that Pinky's seemingly random agreements with the Brain actually do have a logic path from the subject matter to his question.

And I'd consider a book more of a door than a window, but I suppose Screwball doesn't get as deeply into fiction as I do. She's hardly alone there.

A raven is sometimes a symbol for scholars who often use desks when doing their work.

Nothing came of it (and Celestia knows I couldn't write it) but I tossed a fanfic idea out at EQD along these lines: Discord is "helping" Fluttershy in her garden (proposing horrible things to plant, like poison joke and screaming mandrakes, as fast as Fluttershy can refuse) when he spots Screwball drifting by far overhead and asks about her. Fluttershy tactfully explains that she appeared in Ponyville during Discord's brief "reign" and seems to be searching for something but generally avoids contact with other ponies.
Discord speculates that he may have (among other possibilities) pulled her out of the timestream; he was having so much fun he couldn't keep track of all the trouble he was causing. Noting Fluttershy's intensifying disapproval, Discord decides to investigate and calls out to Screwball; when Screwy spots Discord, she immediately tackles him to the ground, crying "Daddy!" Discord is protesting his (relative) innocence to Fluttershy when Screwball looks up, gasps, and glomps Fluttershy to the ground as well, crying "Mommy!!" Discord and Fluttershy exchange expressions of horror; end chapter.
Such possibilities.
