LIVE PREVIEW | View stock images used 
Want to customize the photo? You can! The instructions are after the boring instructions 
INSTRUCTIONS: To edit the pop-out sidebar, click the 'edit skin' link on the upper left of the journal edit page. Then, in the lower text box you'll find <SUP> tags. Anything you put between them will show up in the sidebar. You can edit the two links and the message, or erase it all and put stamps, plz-emotes... anything.There isn't any HTML you need to remember, but if you like:
- Use two bold tags to make a heading, or three bold tags for a bigger heading with an underline.
- Wrap your thumbs in <div class="feature">...</div> to have them formatted differently.
- <blockquote> gets a little dotted border on the left
Changing the photo is easily done - When you paste your images into the template, you don't have to be super accurate - just make sure to get it centred over the sample photos. The photo frame will crop the extra bits out for you.
You could submit it to your scraps, but make sure to get the URL of the actual image, and not just what's in the address bar when you view your deviation.
update, 27th May '09 deviantART now replaces any links to my userpage/gallery/etc with YOUR username, which is cool, but broke the link that pointed to the stock images. I've fixed that by using an URL shortener. update, 18th May '09 fixed the alignment in the attribution and stock footer text, fixed skin so that moods list works top and bottom, and added support for Internet Exploder - though the hover effects can't be fixed because IE sucks.update, 6th May '09 styled the attribution footer, added background colour to the photo, so if background (man) doesn't load (when people change it) it's not transparent.

Hi!
*live-view is a new group, where you can host your live-views of journal skins. To get the group started I (=brgtt ) picked a few journal skins and yours was one of them.
This skin will be featured in various modules on the front page and a preview has been uploaded and checked in firefox, safari and internet explorer.
If you don't want the live-view, let me know and I will take it down pronto!

I like the way this looks so much, but I've tried and tried to change the picture, and I just get a black box...

If the picture is black that means the image isn't loading. This is probably because you're not linking to the image properly.
I checked the address you are using, and it looks like you're using the address of the deviation. That wont work, you need to use the address of the actual image. The other problem is that the image you're trying to use doesn't follow the template - [link] - but I'll help you get it looking reasonable.
First, change the background of .photo_ to:
#222222 url([link] ) repeat scroll -70px -110px
... and remove the line that has .photo_:hover - this will disable the hover effect where the image changes when people put their mouse over the image.

Sorry about the url replacement - we did because so many skin authors expect the user to know how to update the urls and the put links like "My Gallery" pointing to the author's gallery URL

Watch out though, if you have a journal that is too short the sidebar looks funny. I'll fix that in a later update, but for now you'll just have to hit enter a few times to make it longer
