This is refreshing.

Unbelievably so... After scouring the critique section I basically spun the globe (proverbially by hitting a random multiple of 60 into the browser window) and landed in the middle of a swamp of angst and overwrought meanings dug in channels by 'free verse' *shudder* "poems"... Like looking through a teenagers diary... Eeesh.

Then this lovely little number appeared and shone a bit of sunshine into the 'angst' department.

It's cute, organic looking with the crayon style drawing and the nervous smile is quite welcoming. It's one of those things that belongs in the "Some things are just nice," section of the Metro newspaper where they just take something pleasant and put it up for people to look at, distracting them from the drudgery of the rest of it.

This is one of those, the pastel colours and natural feel of it makes it as I said at first - refreshing. Like a cool lemonade on a muggy summers day - it cleanses the palette of all the grey sludge that seems to accumulate from the apparent need for artists to have something bothering them the entire time and just... It just looks sunny. Bright and eyecatching.

There should be more stuff like this - it brightens up the place.

This whole critique means so much to me!

Every little bit of feedback I can get is so much appreciated, and your particular critique made me grin like an idiot! I love drawing with pastels and smiles because yes, exactly what you stated, this website could use a little cheering up! I'm not one to make others feel sad, and some bright colors and happy little cats and dogs are my way of doing so! You just totally made my day with this, have a wonderful day <333

Why thank you very much.

I'm also in the camp of advocating balance between a teenagers diary and something a bit more breezy... As well as advocating that a critique (or the critiquing system) is used properly - or at best, without some of the absolute mince you find people leave as a critique.

A few examples I've seen are of the same word or phrase copied and pasted until it fills the criteria for the word count with no actual thought put into it. Kind of frustrating to see that kind of waste.

It's kind of like when you get a and go to thank the person, only to see there's a massive que of others doing the same, it really sucks the value out of the stuff if it's just being an arbitrary, thoughtless, addition to a collection without really 'feeling it' you know?

People ask for critiques to gauge what their viewers are looking for, where to improve, where to explore and basically - do they like it or not?

It's not hard and it helps people get a grip on what they are doing well and what they can work on. Granted personal style (and in some cases hubris) can get in the way of making any changes, but we can only (as critics - who are being nice - not just tearing stuff asunder for the fun of it) promise to try!

Thank you for the watch too... Another thing I like to do is 'mutual watch' if I get one I watch the other back as it means we are balancing out the... Thing? My words aren't working today I'm afraid.

Yes, I completely agree! Filling up the critique space with the same word is flattering, yes, but should be just posted as a comment. There's a word count for a reason!

I've only get ten a few critiques before but I can only think of one in which that happened to me. But most often those are people new to the website, so I'm willing to give them a little leeway.

You're quite welcome! It's all good, I stumble for the right word all the time xD
