Description
English/InglésHere we come with Day 4 of the ZeLink week. The theme here now is "Memories". I had a hard time choosing a particular incarnation here, but luckily, was able to provide a good suggestion. However, since I was planning something for A Link to the Past for Day 7, I had to change that one in order to make this. This particular Link is notable because he's the one who stars on the most games, according to the official timeline, with a total of four: A Link to the Past, Oracle of Ages, Oracle of Seasons and Link's Awakening. At first, I had been suggested that I made the beginning, when Link wakes up in the bed and mistakes Marin for Zelda, but then I thought it would fit better at the end. Many jokes have been made about Link being left stranded in the middle of the ocean at the end of the game, yet the way I see it, I think he'll eventually find his way back, his memories of Zelda will become that beacon that will guide him home.

Me gusta, te quedo lindo ^^

Nice picture, cute him remembering her as his way to get back to shore then. Let's hope he is able to find his way back to shore. Zelda's memory can give him strength, but perhaps Seagull Marin can help lead him to shore.

You're Welcome. Yeah, that makes sense.
I do wonder if they put any story behind why Marin can exist off the island in Hyrule Warriors. Do you think perhaps the Wind Fish dreamed her back into human form as part of a Waking Dream, since she seems to use the Windfish to help her in battle?

FoxBluereaver In reply to Dinalfos5 [2016-09-23 11:32:46 +0000 UTC]
Well, since Hyrule Warriors takes place on a dimension where the worlds created by each of the timelines seem to "converge", it might just be that.

Dinalfos5 In reply to FoxBluereaver [2016-09-24 04:10:35 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, that makes sense.
Hyrule Warriors isn't part of the main continuity of the main games, but it does seem to take place in the 'Child' Timeline since it involves Twilight Princess and other games that took place before the timeline split. But in Legends, a timeline rift opens up and part of the Adult timeline leaks over, with Tetra, King Daphnes, Helmaroc King, Phantom Ganon and Miniblins pouring out. It's never really explained why, other than perhaps as a side effect of Cia's death.
No plot is ever given how it connects to the Downfall Timeline with Marin, but perhaps we'll get some more info later.

From what I've heard, it's Ravio and Yuga, but I would so love it if it was Hilda instead.

Well, that's great. I was hoping they'd add Ravio, if only as an alternate skin for Link, but as a separate character, that's even better.

Dinalfos5 In reply to FoxBluereaver [2016-09-25 23:23:22 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I would love it if Hilda was a character too, but Ravio is a good choice, and Yuga would be an interesting alternative.

FoxBluereaver In reply to Dinalfos5 [2016-09-25 23:30:59 +0000 UTC]
Ravio is a nice addition, considering that most of the playable heroes are females (not that I complain, but seriously, wouldn't be bad to balance out those numbers).

Dinalfos5 In reply to FoxBluereaver [2016-09-26 02:45:17 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, it might be interesting. I honestly like the idea of Hilda, mostly because I like the character and would like to see how they can make her different than Zelda, but Yuga would be a good addition too. For starters, we need more Male players, as this game oddly has an uneven ratio of more females than males (but honestly, would it be so bad if they did have more females, how many other games have horrible ratios of more males to females, would the other way around be so bad?), so far I think it's 11 males and 14 females. With Ravio and Yuga, it will be 13-14, as even a ratio as you can get with uneven player numbers. If it's Hilda and not Yuga, than the ratio is 12-15, less even. To be fair, there are 2 less female individuals, as Zelda and Sheik are the same character, as are Midna and Twili Midna. So a more even ratio of individuals. At the same time, Yuga would help up the number of villains to heroes a little higher, as their are only 7 villains so far, compared to the 18 heroes.

FoxBluereaver In reply to Dinalfos5 [2016-09-26 11:28:55 +0000 UTC]
Hilda has her staff, so she could easily use it as her weapon of choice. Including the villains, yeah, the male-to-female ratio is more or less balanced, but I'm talking about the heroes' side specifically, especially in the main story. And taking into account that there are three incarnations of Link (the "main" Link, Young Link and Toon Link), there's that too. Then again, this is mostly because there IS a shortage of important male characters in the series, if we look back to the past games.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Dinalfos5 In reply to FoxBluereaver [2016-09-26 14:17:37 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, that's quite true, her staff makes for an obvious and potentially interesting weapon. If she's not in Legends, I'd like to see her in a sequel.
Well, that is true, 6 out of the 11 males are villains. and of the remaining 5, 3 are incarnations of Link. Ravio would be a hero that's not technically Link, but it's close. So some uneven ratios there too.
That is true, not many heroic males in the series, it is missing quite a few beyond Link himself.
Speaking of Sequels, I did have a few ideas for new characters if I could have my say for the sequel, some of which do go against the norm of Female heroes and male villains:
Twinrova: A main villain of the sequel, in charge of events to bring Ganon back. For the sake of the game, her 'fused' form is default, she splits into Koume and Kotake for various attacks.
Veran: this female villain would be from a section that focused on the LttP Era, as well as the Oracles and LA.
Ralph: This eager young hero from Labyrna is one of the few male heroes in the series, so perhaps a welcome addition.
Drat, I thought I had more than just those 3. There were other male characters like Onox, Vaati and Aghanim, but again, villains.
Can you think of other good potential additions if they had a sequel game, especially more male heroes or female villains?
To be fair, HW abundance of female characters is better than most games who focus on female characters. There are some series that even have entirely female casts, but in those games, the females are often overly sexualized (DOAX, Rumble Roses, Hyperdimension Neptunia etc.) so with few exceptions, Hyrule Warriors and the Zelda series is doing a lot better for positive female characters than a lot of games.

I actually enjoy a few of those games, by the way. Sure, they're more of fanservice than anything, but it's one of those "Guilty pleasures" we all have. As for male heroes in HW, if they got Marin as a fighter, whose only talent in her original game was singing, who's to say they couldn't do the same with others? For instance, Kafei from Majora's Mask, if the part where we get to (briefly) control him is anything to go by.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Dinalfos5 In reply to FoxBluereaver [2016-09-27 04:55:17 +0000 UTC]
Well, true, I like a lot of those games, for the same guilty reasons, mostly fanservice, but Hyperdimension Neptunia is it's own fun game with a mostly satirical plot. Still, I question how much of a problem they are or not, but again, it's hard for me not to appreciate it. You know I wouldn't be having these kind of arguments about female roles if I didn't have some kind of real appreciation for female characters in strong roles and treated as equals to the males.
Yeah, you got a good point, so it's mostly who is an interesting character with a thematic fighting style, more than who is a good warrior. Kafei is an interesting example and addition. So do you have any ideas of any interesting, if not capable, male characters from across the series?

I can't think of anyone else right now, at least in the games I've played. Or anyone you haven't mentioned yet, for that matter, since I would have perhaps suggested Ralph from OoS, even though he's more of a load than a help for the most part, in my opinion.

Dinalfos5 In reply to FoxBluereaver [2016-09-27 23:35:02 +0000 UTC]
Hmm, fair enough, it is hard to pick some of them. Well, it's been a while, but I remember Ralph at least means well and he fancies himself a warrior at least.
Hmm, if King Daphnes can be a character, perhaps Ezlo too? In his true form, he'd certainly be a powerful wizard.

FoxBluereaver In reply to Dinalfos5 [2016-09-28 00:28:49 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, but he's so bent on impressing Nayru and being the one who rescues her, he sometimes doesn't think very clearly (like trying to kill Queen Ambi while she's possesed by Veran, and not just because he'd erase himself from existence if he did).
Yeah, you're right, Ezlo in his true form could be another good fighter. Maybe I didn't think of him because we only get to see him in this form for a very short amount of time in the game.

Dinalfos5 In reply to FoxBluereaver [2016-09-28 01:21:22 +0000 UTC]
Hmm, yeah, I guess I might be forgetting certain aspects about him, as I said, I've forgotten certain aspects of the plot of OoA.
Yeah, we do see so little of him in his true form, but then again, we don't see much of Midna's true form either, and that ended up being made as its own character too.
Actually someone who would have some physical prowess and whose heart ended up being in the right place was Groose from Skyward Sword, despite being a jerk and bully at first, he ended up being quite the ally for Link and Impa, so he could be a character if they wanted to explore SS again in the series.

FoxBluereaver In reply to Dinalfos5 [2016-09-28 01:41:12 +0000 UTC]
With Groose I'm pretty much at a loss, because I have yet to play Skyward Sword, and everything I know of that game is mostly from what Artemiss has told me (I needed a lot of help for her during the SS arc in our HW story), so I'll take your word for it.

Ahh, oh I see. Well, if you don't know, "Groosenators' are basically just catapults with bomb flowers used to knockdown the Imprisoned in both Skyward Sword and Hyrule Warriors, named because Groost invented them, or at least operates them.

FoxBluereaver In reply to Dinalfos5 [2016-09-28 15:44:48 +0000 UTC]
Hmm, I might try something like that for the final act. After Cia has been defeated, of course.

Dinalfos5 In reply to FoxBluereaver [2016-09-28 17:43:22 +0000 UTC]
Well, 'authentic' Groosenators were found on the Sealed Grounds and were used to stun the Imprisoned when Ghirahim summoned it during that mission. It might not have come up in your story, but perhaps Link saw one and decided to copy it? Or Fi related it to Link or the others? More can be found here zeldawiki.org/Groosenator

FoxBluereaver In reply to Dinalfos5 [2016-09-28 20:36:08 +0000 UTC]
I didn't use them (like I said, didn't even know of them), but I've already thought of when and how to use a similar catapult in a future chapter. To both sides, actually.

Dinalfos5 In reply to FoxBluereaver [2016-09-30 02:57:49 +0000 UTC]
Okay, I understand. I just meant that if it's called a Groosenator it should have some connection to the one from Skyward Sword, so maybe Fi told them what it was called.
