I don't have Linux, but I have emulated the OS. specifically "Linux Mint" many times using Oracle's VirtualBox software.^^ (it's Java-powered Freeware)
Get it Here: [link]
VirtualBox has special settings for Linux Ubuntu.^^
Note: Virtual Box will support 64-bit guest OSes, only if the Host OS is an 64-bit OS. (I would still recommend using the 32-bit OSes, as they will run slightly smoother)

LifeBinnacle In reply to FoxClaw100 [2009-11-05 02:54:04 +0000 UTC]
emular es... simular. En este caso Wine simula ser windows y asΓ los ejecutables se instalan en linux =3

well i didn't damage mine the first time i did it...
If you're unsure about what to do, there are a lot of step by step guides :3

Yeah, I am unsure of what to do ._. well, I want to install it to an external hardrive! I put the disk, and chose ubuntu, and it started with the demo...yeah. I have a book that came with two disks that had a lot of Linux distributions, oh, yeah, when I chjoose ubuntu, it starts with knoppix...If it's written ike that ...

well i assume that if you want to boot via a extern device you have to format it in the right way first.

well if i was you i would just make another partition on your hdd to begin with. When you have linux installed it's easier to make a usb thingy :3 But before you install linux, read some about partitions.

If you have a good side Hard-drive you can install Linux using an app called wubi. It installs Linux on logical partition and writes to the window's boot loader that there is something else to boot. That's how I have Linux installed with Windows on the same drive.

FoxClaw100 In reply to weirdmindofesh [2009-07-18 00:35:55 +0000 UTC]
yeah, but I am studying computer sciences, and I want to do it the hard way, to learn wubi is too easy ._. and it installs only ubuntu, I heard. And if it's in an external harddrive, I connect it to any other computer, and (I think thta) I can use linux in any compiter then! I think, I don't remember, I think I read something like thta, thta you install it there, ad if oyu conect it in other computers (and maybe boot it) you can use linux there toooo.

It is the easy way out. I have done it on two separate hdds. I learned to check the drives first before I install. (Some played the worst computer prank on me, they switched hard drives on me. So I inadvertently wiped my storage drive. I was after blood!)

...? I said I don't want to do it the easy way, wubi is the easy way, I want to learn the hard way, so I am doing it the somehow hardway, and it doesn't use your computers hardrive memory, it uses en external memory, from like an USBN, because it's from an external hardrive, and it's like, you can bring linux with you all the time!
