You know I'm depressed when the made-up hard-to-draw critters start crawling out of the woodwork. I really had to rack my brain to figure out which song I was feeling and to illustrate. Because ... there are so damn many. It came down to about ten, which included Boulevard of Broken dreams. (which could also apply to this drawing, I'm sure.) Anyway, I've been a little sad lately. So, after listening to "endless night" from the Broadway musical of The Lion King, for the umpteenth time since Monday. I decided to draw this last night and finished it up today. And while I understand the circumstances that brought me to this state, it doesn't mean I have to be happy with, or like it. I am an artist, as such I am allowed, no... ENTITLED, to draw how I feel, as catharsis, as a form of grieving. I know why, I hate it, but I understand. It doesn't keep me from missing you."You promised you'd be there,

Although I like the darker version better, I think it may be a bit *too* dark. It sort of hurts my eyes to try to see it, as seeing the character. But it is much better than the higher contrast one which is so bright it takes away what you were meaning to convey, maybe there's happy medium between the two?

I have a particularly bad LCD, so colour contrast really gets borked (believe me, playing Doom is no small feat) - so thanks for tweaking a version and uploading that. I would have probably made the lighting on his/her/its? fur more pronounced (in both pictures), but that's really preference, the style still makes it... Mournful.

Heh, when I first popped this up, I thought, "She drew... a black screen?"
But it's truly brilliant. What the darkness takes away from the raw eye-candy factor, it adds to the depth and emotion of the picture - it just takes a second longer to take it all in (which I imagine is kinda the point). Your art has such versatility. I approve!

Thank you for reading the commentary and looking at the link provided for a brighter picture. It is irksome at times when I put a good deal of work into an emotional peice only to have it torn apart because it is "dark" when I have provided alternatives. Chimenticore...have to remember that...really snazzy (plus I have a weakness for bat wings). So wonderful, however, the darkness of the sky, the lack of stars and there's only a slight 'light' in the eyes, in the tear. This has some feeling in it. You feel the hopelessness, the loniness...
Maybe I'm looking into it too far...but...wow. Just incredible.

Very poignant pic. I love it. I think the darkness is just right. It emphasizes the emotion than if it were lighter. The face is more visible than anything else, so it just amplifies the emotion in my opinion.

I agree, and also i have looked at it on three separate monitors, it looks best if you have your brightness set on "high" also the link provided shows a higher contrast. but this is basically my mood for the last week.
