-EDIT- WOW!!!! My hubby just came roaring down the hall at 5:00 a.m. to wake me up and tell me I got a DD!!! I don't think I've ever jumped out of bed so fast! I' am completely shocked and sooo happy! Thank you so much `kuschelirmel and `nighty !!

Have one wish before we die.
And it may sound strange
As if our minds are deranged.
Please don't ask us why

This piece began with an overpainting in Corel Painter IX, of both the model, and the dunes. Then, working with the colors (which were already beautiful), I was able to match the desert sand a bit more with the blend of the scarf. Finally, a perfect texture was found at =resurgere , which gave it the vintage look I was hoping for. Something from another time and place.

A note about this piece: So many times, I make art as illustrations - usually to coincide with some random story that is going on in my mind. More often than not, the art is something I would enjoy in an art book, but not hanging up in my home, as funny as that sounds. Well, today I was determined to make something that would go with my decor, and that I would actually enjoy hanging on my wall. I have always had a love for the desert, and for the romance of travelers who would seek out these stark places. Of course, the song by The Police has always been a favorite of mine, and has dual meaning for me... since there is the line in it about "beneath the sheltering sky". That lyric refers to the book by Paul Bowles called "The Sheltering Sky", which is one of my absolute favorite novels. So, this piece encompasses all of that. Whether or not it becomes a favorite here is secondary. When I look at this, all those great feelings of why I adore that book, that song, and the beauty of the desert fill me... and that's a great feeling.
