Artist's Notes: Anyone who cherishes the experience of reading a good book knows that there is untold riches found in the rasp of turning pages, and scouring an old book store is the best sort of treasure hunt to be had. And so I wrap up 2007 with a piece to salute one of my favorite pleasures.

I absolutely love this. Growing up my parents had more books than anything else in the house. We had so many books that there was often no place to sit on the couch and it was hard to walk from one room to the next. Now that my brother and I are out of the house there are shelves in every room... and it is still hard to find a seat
This picture reminds me of how I feel when I go looking for something to read when we go home to visit. My two oldest children (15 and 12) have always loved going to grandmas to find something neat. Now the three year old has joined us in the hunt and we always find something for everyone. From Shakespeare and Dickens to Stephen King and Terry Brooks and Margret Mitchell... there is no genre without representation.
This is a wonderful piece and captures the joy of the hunt. The companion piece is equally as wonderful as a representation of the joy of enjoying the treasure we find.

This reminds me so much of an old secondhand book store that used to be near me, now sadly shut

(P.s. I laugh every time I read that quote you have there. I read the article, and just thought it was so hysterical!! I need to make a photomanipulation of Mr. Colenso and his Questionable Truffle Handling. LOL)

The bookshop was in a barn behind a pub, and if there was no space on the shelves, the books were lined up on the beams and stacked on the floor. It was a magical place
