Artist's Notes: Anyone who cherishes the experience of reading a good book knows that there is untold riches found in the rasp of turning pages, and scouring an old book store is the best sort of treasure hunt to be had. And so I wrap up 2007 with a piece to salute one of my favorite pleasures.

This also could be considered a companion piece to one I did earlier, which to this day remains one of my personal favorites - called Ex Libris: [link]

------------
"When the wind is blowing and the sleet or rain is driving against the dark windows, I love to sit by the fire, thinking of what I have read in books of voyage and travel." - Charles Dickens

"Let your bookcases and your shelves be your gardens and your pleasure-grounds. Pluck the fruit that grows therein, gather the roses, the spices, and the myrrh." ~Judah Ibn Tibbon

“A great book should leave you with many experiences, and slightly exhausted. You should live several lives while reading it.”
William Styron

“A well-composed book is a magic carpet on which we are wafted to a world that we cannot enter in any other way”
Caroline Gordon

Many years ago, that'd be me as a little boy, with knights in armor, dragons, fair damsels (in need of rescuing and maybe a smooch or two) ... ah! Wonderful! Just wonderful!

Ah, so you've moved on from masks to books...not a bad switch, I do enjoy a good read or too!

Another great concept. Honestly, you should start writing story books for children; they'd probably put J.K. Rowling to shame!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Foxfires In reply to Nikaleena [2007-12-26 18:29:16 +0000 UTC]

Heheh - you don't know how close I came to putting a tiny mask up on that shelf. Actually - now that I think of it, there technically *is* a mask up there! But I put the snowglobe in front of it, and decided to just keep it that way. So you could say it's a 'hidden' treasure. LOLOL

Funny you should mention children's books. This very weekend I was brainstorming and writing down notes for one. All very hush hush....of course. Heheh.

Foxfires In reply to pendlestock [2007-12-26 17:06:32 +0000 UTC]

I've gone through times in my life that are like that , but thankfully it always eventually works out and I dive right back in. Right now I'm determined to work through some of my favorite Charles Dickens stories. Something about reading Dickens in the winter is just magical.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pendlestock In reply to Foxfires [2007-12-26 19:41:58 +0000 UTC]

Gah Dickens depresses me. I love Philip Pullman, Alan Garner... Michael Endes... I'm running out of new writers that do the same sort of fantasy stories. The kind that are anchored in real life and are magical rather than fantastical if you know what I mean...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Foxfires In reply to pendlestock [2007-12-27 17:25:30 +0000 UTC]

LOL Awww, well then I'll just read the Dickens for the both of us. My choice in literature strays all over the map....but I do know exactly the kind you are describing!
