Description
Lantern in .3DS AND .OBJ format

THIS WAS DONE AS PART OF A TUTORIAL! I'd highly recommend, a lot in here about working with all aspects of 3ds, especially UVW Unwrapping. [link]

The above depicts the model as textured, and also in wireframe minus the turbo-smooth. It includes all textures and materials used to attain the look above. Rendered in 3ds using Vray.

Poly's: 154670

Enjoy the model!

EDIT - Wow a DD?! Special Thanks to:
for the suggestion and for the feature! I'm truly honored

As with any model I make, they are in my gallery for download for free. Use and enjoy them as you please!

This is amazing! I have no idea about any of this, but all the (limited...) metal-work things I know are going through my head making me say, "wow! real!" as everyone else has. ^o^

If you were to say what material it was made out of (if it weren't a rendering), what would you say, btw? ^o^

On a side note, your use of icons/emoticons amused me greatly. ^_^

Hah, thanks so much for the comment... I rather enjoy the use (some would say over-use) of emoticons to liven things up a bit.

It's interesting that you'd ask about the material...my mother-in-law just purchased one that was of very similar design, except class around the perimeter... but the material was a thin sheet metal..steel I believe. If you'd like I could get some highres photos of it...I plan to anyway for another model

Nice work! the textures makes it real one thing i think that can improve this is some occlusion shadows. if you just do an occlusion render and multiply it in photoshop^^ other then that i love it (i didn't have the patience to complete that tutorial)

Nice model, nice texturing and rendering.
photorealistic

Not so difficult i think?

foxgguy2001 In reply to SirCedal [2010-11-07 16:45:48 +0000 UTC]

No the modeling was pretty straight forward... but the texturing and lighting on this one I think took me to another level... I really spent a great deal of time with it trying to get it all just right, the reflections, lighting, candle-light...it was certainly worth it

I thought this was a tutorial on how to make that lantern...In real materials. Not a 3D piece.

Very well crafted 3D image. I thought it was real.
Well deserved daily deviation. Keep up the good work!

Thank you! Though I cannot take credit for the design of the model, I did go my own direction on the texturing. Thank you for your support
