Description

Five years ago, I joined Deviantart under the name Heddy the Hedgehog. The name of course referred to a fanmade name I created for my love of the show “The Mysteries of Alfred the Hedgehog”, which sadly did not garner as much attention from the intended audience as it should have. I stumbled upon this show in my teen years and I got an odd attachment to its portrayed characters, they were just so cute. After looking online for more about these characters I discovered a community of artists that made fan art of the characters, and their art inspired me to join them. Within one week I uploaded my first deviation: A cringy portrayal of Alfred from the show. My reaction at the time of its completion was that of an excited 15 year old contributing his first piece to the massive community, and of course since my standards and skills at the time were very low I thought it was a great piece. Now, I completely think otherwise. After 5 (sort of) productive years, I thought I should look back to evaluate my progress. And of course, looking back to my first ever piece was what I had in mind. It’s amazing what five years can do to you.

I actually have a lot to be thankful for, especially to those that got me started in my drawing career. I personally want to thank AnnaTheWonderGirl01 for putting up with my cheesy drawings for a long time, and for being a kind and thoughtful friend over the years. I also owe it to: XUnlimited , kreazea who I remember went by the name “Zeevee” (if I remember correctly) at the time I first joined, NuMe-ONE , and Koru-ru . Thank you all for inspiring me and getting me started on this adventure, where I met such wonderful people along the way (i’m looking at you John XD) that encouraged me to become the artist I am today. And I know i’m not as good as you guys yet, but I am still impassioned to improve with every year that passes by. And hopefully, one day, I will actually join you all as an amazing artist. Much love. <3

AWWW

I'm honored (I really friggin mean that!) to have met you and encouraged you mah'dude. X'3

Keep at it, keep at it, and dammit, keep at it some more! Everybody says practicing is the best way to 'git gud' at art, and it's TRUE.
(Expensive/pirated drawing software also helps a lot )

I still have my old stuff from 2011 and 2012. O . O
I should do one of these 'draw this again' memes one of these days (problem is most of my characters from back in the early days are now defunct. XD )

I feel the time is now to really set my standards higher and practice more often, so i'll be listening to friend's advice more prominently now. every little bit of help counts.

Bro, have at it with those old works! Remaster the shit out of em! I would totally want to witness the difference firsthand.

You really have come a long way since you joined. I have too, joining dA pulled me out of a 4-year art drought and inspired me to create many things.

Wow, isn't it just amazing how such a small and underrated show animated for children could pull our attention and inspire us to do great things?

Anna, you were my first ever DA friend. I can't thank you enough for being that spark of joy that give me attention when I was most vulnerable. I've learned so much along the way, and now nothing anyone says or does to deter me from art will ever affect me, because of the lessons iv'e learned. You were like (please bare with me XD) the mama birb that took a poor, sad little baby chick that was abandoned by its own family and you took it under your wing. And you kindly nurtured it. And you slowly watched it grow. And now that chick has grown up and won't shut up about how thankful he is for your help.

Your are now forever in my debt. And you will always be my first, and special friend.

Aye, I've never heard of that show before. But I'm at that phase where cartoon doesn't attract me that much yet, so I dunno if I'll check it out if You asked me to~ owo;
But it's true! When we look back, we felt at the time, everytime we finish a new drawing, we feel like it's the best art ever! Growing up, improving our skill and visual criticism, they all look bad and cringy, but at the same time, we started from there, so it's really fun to look at the present and past now~ X3

Nice story of how you got into the drawing community! I haven't told anyone yet how I got in it~

lol, it's a lovely little show.

I totally agree, this has been quite an experience for me looking back. it's such a beautiful thing to reach a milestone in life and realizing it wasn't all just a waste of time. that certainly rings true for you too, you talented little cat.

Oooooo I am super interested now. I really want to know more about you, especially what brought you to the art family.

What kind of prompt will I be able to use to tell? Feels weird to suddenly shout and say, "SIT DOWN FOLKS! I'm gonna tell a story bout my life here"~

what don't you do what I did, remake really old art and give summaries of your past? like mini blogs. I would totally dig that.
