More specifically, a trap is a character who appears to be female at first (whether he's deliberately crossdressing or just impossibly girly). The term comes from Admiral Ackbar, of Star Wars, whose famous line "It's a trap!" became the catch-cry for telling people on message/image boards that what they thought was a cute girl, was in fact a boy ^_^
