As far as I know, it has always been colorized as yellow. Sometimes blue/white, of course, but regardless.
But the electric yellow is probably coming from lightbulbs. While they tend to be white as well, you catch my drift.

When drawing electricity, people just click a shade of yellow and ruin everything.
