After watching Madonna soar home in the breeders cup to claim first place, Emily had set herself more and more in the work of the stables, watching and participating in track work, working with King and even helping out with the awful birth of Gojira's Rule. She'd especially taken a liking however to the big brown Trakhener Kasper, who had won her over with his gentlemanly ways. So when she had heard of the dressage competition in the upcoming New Year's show, she'd been the first to volunteer in the stable's newest venture. It was quickly realised that Kasper and Emily were a smart match, and they looked effortless in the arena on the bright, crisp day.

There wasn't a cloud in the sky, and there was a light breeze that kept the chill ever present. In the distance, the speckled snow on the mountains reminded the pair that they weren't in Australia anymore, and she tried to ignore this as she focused on Kasper's brilliant halfpass. He wasn't like any other - his movement blew her away every time she sat on him, and his trot was unnaturally smooth. Sitting to it was like floating on a boat. He swished his tail as he stepped across, obviously enjoying himself in the wintery air that livened him up just an extra touch. Had Emily not been concentrating so deeply, she might have smiled at the way he virtually leapt across the arena, bounding with an energy and impulsion that made the fiery racehorses back home look nearly dull. As they came back to the track on the opposite side of the arena, Emily pushed him into a canter. Her aids were nothing more than a slight swing of the hips and a give with the hands, and he was off in a steady, rocking canter that Emily was sure that she could go to sleep on. If she could take this wonderful opportunity and make it work, then maybe settling in back home after all that time away might be that much easier.
