And the worst background award goes to....ME! XD
Obviously the color version of Ninja-Kumiko's contest entry. I didn't get a chance to color this in time for the judging, but it won first place anywayz! Isn't that awesome! Why yes, yes it is!
I really shoulda drawn a BG..... -_-
It looks like one of those weird pics of anime characters drawn into real-life photos.
Oh, and I'm trying to get better at coloring stuff (good thing too, cuz I got lots to color ^^) and I figured out that one of my biggest problems is I try too hard and worry too much when I color things. I just need to keep it simple.
The girls came out great I think, but that fudgin' BG....

If you're finding it hard to color, desaturate everything by 20% and a whole new world of color will open up to you. Remember that our eyes don't measure our color absolutely, but relative to the other colors around them. For example, perhaps the purple hair and pink shirt were slightly too bright in this picture when the bg that dark. That's why you'll find in most tuts they say it is a good idea to draw your bg first because it sets the tone of your image. It's all about contrast my friend.
