Description Code Geass - Bad Call
[Episode- R2 05]

Here is the latest Code Geass 4koma. This one is inspired by the events of the end of the fifth episode. Sorry to say you really don't get the full impact of this unless you see the episode. It's still pretty funny. Sorry, no fan service on this one. I'll post some Spoilers an explanation of the scene for those who would like it below.
The background was the most complicated thing to make on this one. It's roughly the same background from the original scene.
The back lit look can be a little odd if you aren't used to it, but it matches the night time scene

I look forward to reading your thoughts and comments.

SPOILER:
In this scene Suzaku is trying to test to see if Lelouch has finally gotten his memories back, after they were removed and remade at the end of the first season. He does have them back, but is pretending to be the part he was given so his beloved little sister, who was taken, will be safe.
In the episode Suzaku handed Lelouch the phone and it's his sister Nunnally; who he's not suppose to remember, but she knows him. Lelouch will be forced to deny knowing his own sister in order to protect her. It's a lowly disgusting trap Suzaku uses.
What makes it even more nasty is that Nunnally is not only unable to walk, but she's also blind.

Yeah that command is interetsing. Though did you notice the marks on the wall in the background in the school had stopped? Maybe his geass wore off...

It's not really clear if they stopped or not, but I did notice that. Can't really count the amount there were.

OpMegs In reply to ??? [2008-05-18 10:39:07 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I'm not trying to blame Lelouch for Euphie's death. It *was* an accident, and a tragic one(knowing it was going to happen made me put off watching that episode for a couple days, as I liked Euphie a good deal). Lelouch did his best, in his own way, to make her sacrifice not be in vain...which tragically made him appear a heartless monster to Suzaku.

Really, Suzaku's goals are rather ironically similar to Lelouch's. One could say he was slime for spitting on Euphie's name and using it to progress the Black Rebellion, when he knew very well it was(partially) his fault. But there were mitigating circumstances. A better goal. Suzaku is similarly starting to lean more and more into morally gray methods. He claims to want Japanese liberation, but his solution is that he'll attain the right to rule Japan as he sees fit, but that just means Japan is free while he lives, and only as a Britannian mercy. Similarly, using Nunnally is a rather cold act in the service of what he sees as a greater good: destroying the monster, Zero, who manipulated and killed Euphie for his own ends.

I don't condone what he did, but I can see it. I'm really hoping the whole story comes out regarding Euphie's death between these two. Suzaku's pursuing a course of vengeance because he's missing a key element of the truth. He truly does care about Nunally, and probably thinks he's protecting her from Lelouch, lest she end up used the same way Euphie was(impossible from our perspective, but similarly impossible is Lelouch *purposely* giving the order he gave Euphie, and Suzaku thinks he did).

As I said, Suzaku right now is at a very low point. The question is whether or not he can climb out of it, and forgive Lelouch for the accident that killed Euphemia. Given Nunally's love for both of them, I can see her working towards this when she finds out who Zero really is. She's as smart as her brother when it comes to recognizing someone's emotions, and Suzaku desperately needs someone sympathetic that doesn't see him as "the pilot of the Lancelot", but just as "Suzaku" right now, or he'll keep spiralling down his slippery moral slope.

You did try and put blame on him when you said the use was deliberate when it wasn't.
Even if Lelouch had tried to tell Suzaku the truth he wouldn't believe it.
Suzaku's motives are all about himself. It's the way HE wants things. He's become part of the very system he wants the change. He has basically become that which he had against Zero. Success at any cost.

I honestly think that is Euphie knew what he was doing and the way he was doing it he would be ashamed. You can't claim to be fighting for a person's goal and betraying that person's very nature. Nunnally was in hiding before for a reason and Suzaku knew about that.

OpMegs In reply to FoxxFireArt [2008-05-18 17:49:06 +0000 UTC]

Ah, well then I must've been unclear. What I *meant* to imply was that Suzaku THINKS Lelouch did it on purpose. And yes, I agree with you that he wouldn't believe it coming from Lelouch. And that, yes, he's taking Zero's route in results regardless of what means are taken. In a way, Suzaku as he is now is more likely to understand what Lelouch did than he ever would have in Season 1.

Of course, as to his goals in terms of making Euphie's ideals a reality, given that Nunally just announced the SAZ is going to be reinstated, one has to wonder what Suzaku's reaction to Lelouch ordering *mass participation* by the Black Knights will be. What's left of his ideals are going to be tested, given he'll be given the option to either take his vengeance or accept the peace that he's supposedly wanted all this time, and which Euphie hoped for from the beginning. As I said, I've yet to make up my mind about him, and his future actions will determine whether he gets shoved into the "bad guy" category for me.

I chuckled.

This comic reminds me of the two things about Code Geass that I absolutely detest:
1) How Lelouch keeps on losing (especially to Suzy) just when he starts to get really awesome;
2) Lelouch's creepy obsession with his sister.

I know Lelouch started this whole "War on Britannia" thing because of Nunally, but I'd really prefer that he tones his sistercon down.

FoxxFireArt In reply to PommeC [2008-05-12 23:10:23 +0000 UTC]

What is so wrong about his deep love for his sister? She's been the only person he can completely trust. They have always been together. It's not like a lust.

The series wouldn't be that interesting if everything always went Lelouch's way. Though it often does seem to be Suzaku who's the wrench in his plan.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PommeC In reply to FoxxFireArt [2008-05-13 03:11:22 +0000 UTC]

No way man, I love Code Geass because of Lelouch's winning moments. The ones where he's just enjoying smashing Britannia and not thinking of his sister's well-being. In fact, if he could remain Machiavelli's posterboy but without Light's God complex, this series would trump Kaiba as this season's winner in my books.

And Nunally? She's not really a character I've related with any level.
She's always been more of a plot device than a person to me.
But go figure, this is just how I enjoy CG.

FoxxFireArt In reply to PommeC [2008-05-13 04:40:22 +0000 UTC]

I like seeing Lelouch winning as well, but it would be dull if he always won these battles.
Nunnally is basically Lelouch's moral compass. I enjoy her character.

PommeC In reply to FoxxFireArt [2008-05-13 20:30:33 +0000 UTC]

Or she could destroy the morale of the main character, leaving him a drug-riddled clinically depressed trainwreck with a deep sense of self-loathing and no purpose, enjoyment, or meaning in life.

But hey, what are the odds of that happening?

It's just a remake on computer. Kind of a digital painting. I sketched it on paper from looking at the scene and then I used tha sketch as a guide while I painted it on computer.

Does anyone else feel like this show sorta reminds them of deathnote. I'm just saying in R1 the two enemies didn't know who they were and whoever found out first would win. It feel like DN where Lelouch is Light and Suzaku is L.

Except this time around it's Light I'm cheering on and L's the one I'd like to give brain damage. You know so mentally he's still brilliant but he's lost all motor controls so all he can do is sit and drool but his mind is still completely active. In short I want Suzaku's life to be hell that's how much I hate him (and Light).

For those who don't believe here [link]

The Mau ep in season one reminded me a lot of deathnote, I agree. Its the guessing games and cat and mouse that remind me of deathnote. If anything, the end of season one reminds me more of X-true clamp style. It reminded me of seed in the start--but thankfully its going more down the 'clamp' path now. :3

FoxxFireArt In reply to jackal2 [2008-05-08 02:04:02 +0000 UTC]

I keep hearing that for some reason, but it's not like Death Note. It's a little silly. Suzaku is nothing like L. L was highly intelligent and a good person.
Light was a psychopath who would sell anyone out and kill without remorse. Lelouch is far more kind hearted who wants to make a world safe for his little sister, and wont sell people out. Just look at how Lelouch reacted when he saw how his actions killed Shirley's father. He was really broken up about it. Light never regretted killing anyone.
Also you are mistaken. Light just didn't know L's real name and L just didn't have the hard evidence to prove Light is Kira. They knew who each other were for almost the whole time. They just could never do anything about it.

If anything this series has a lot in common with Gundam SEED.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jackal2 In reply to FoxxFireArt [2008-05-08 02:33:41 +0000 UTC]

I said slightly (I think, I'm too lazy to check my work). The point I was making is that Lelouch has supernatural powers from an unkillable possible otherworldly being. He is trying to change the world and believes, at least in my opinion, that his side is the side of justice. Suzaku on the other hand has superior resources from the current regime like L. Granted in the first half (or part since I have no idea how many episodes R2 will have) he wanted to change the way things were going but now after he decided to be an absolute douche I'd say he's now just a puppet who's forgotten his ambition.

Plus I'm more of a Wing instead of SEED (in other words I think I watch 1 episode of SEED before I lost interest, don't advise me to give it another shot once I lose interest so completely in something it stays lost) so you may be right in that regard.

I feel as though I'm forgetting something but oh well.

Hahaha! This strip is brilliant! I look forward to showing it to my friends who just watched episode 5 last night!

As far as the comparison between Code Geass/Lelouch & Death Note/Light - there is one other very significant difference between these characters that so far seems to have been overlooked in the discussion here.

Light does his "remaking the world" from the shadows, from the safety and anonymity of his bedroom. Lelouch is out ON THE BATTLEFIELD leading his troops directly, placing his own life directly in the hazard. This, I think, makes Lelouch the much more sympathetic and respectable character.

As to this episode and the hatin' on Suzaku: while I admit I am also a Lelouch fan (he has a cape!), think about Suazaku's PoV. He saw Lelouch shoot his true love! I mean, if I were hanging around the guy who shot my love I'd be trying put the screws to him too! And did you note that if Suzaku's plan proceeds, he will have achieved everything Lelouch wanted in the first series (a restored Japan (he calls it that, not Area 11), a secure place for Nanaly, and Suzaku will be Nanaly's Knight!)?
