Description More of my little series of Tolkien-inspired drawings.

Strider, aka Aragorn son of Arathorn, from Lord of the Rings.

I wanted to draw him looking sad and thoughtful and lost-kingly. I'm not sure if I like how it turned out, but it was worth a try. I try my best not to think of the movie versions, but I'm not sure if I manage to fully escape the tyranny of the films!

That's supposed to be Weathertop in the background, but I didn't research the topography or anything, so just consider it my artistic take on the area.

I think you really made an awesome job on his expression, his face looks so wise and torn, it really shows a lot of the depth of the character, and the hatching and background are amazing

I love your Tolkien landscapes!
Can I borrow you to illustrate the books for me?

Lost-kingly and weather-beaten, after all that years in the wilderness - oh, Aragorn. You did the travel-worn look of his face and skin so well!
All that is gold does not glitter, indeed.

Thanks so much--you're too kind! I'm happy you like how it turned out. I don't know why Tolkien style landscapes seem to be easier for me. Probably it's because trees and mountains and rolling hills are the only kinds of backgrounds I really enjoy drawing.

And I'm very glad you like how my Aragorn looks, too. I love that man. I always have this idea of how everyone looks as I'm reading, but sometimes I can't quite interpret it into drawings. I try my best, though!

The expression is excellent, and if it helps, I don't think he looks like the Aragorn from the films (: That Aragorn has curly hair for a start, and... well, he looks like Viggo Mortensen basically x3 Anyway, I love the drawing, and don't worry, Aragorn: Liv Tyl- er, Arwen still loves you!

Thank you so much!

And yes, that's true, he always has Arwen to cheer him up when he's feeling gloomy.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring; Renewed shall be blade that was broken: The crownless again shall be king.

Oh, Aragorn.

Haha, I had to be extra nerdy, for your LOTR art is putting a fresh shine on my love for this story.

I so envy Aragorn for having his own official poem. If only I had a mythical verse all about me!

And thank you--I'm really glad you like how it turned out. Even if I'm happier with my portrayal of Weathertop than of Aragorn himself, ha ha.

I think he does look sad and thoughtful more sad though. I don't really see lost on his expression but still, very nice, he looks all bummed out with the burden of the world on his shoulders.

Thank you!

Oh, I didn't mean lost literally, I meant more the sadness of being from a "lost" and dying out race and bearing the responsibility that comes with that. But I wasn't being very clear.

Thank you so much. It's true--he is really hard to draw! I'm not really sure how I want to portray him, but I gave it a try.

That's some damn pretty rolling countryside, bb.

I really like his expression, too, and the way you've rendered his hair. Sad, thoughtful, lost-kingly...check, check, double-check <3

Thank you so much! I realized while drawing this that Tolkien art is especially fun for me to draw because I loove drawing hills and mountains and trees and pastoral scenes.

And I'm very glad you think his expression is successful!

Poor Aragorn!

I'll find his sandwich for him. Then maybe he'll give me a smile.
