Love this fractal2cry...I haven't been able yet to achieve anything worthy yet with this technique...but this certainly inspires me to try!

I wonder if you used a different variation for the column if you could get rid of the grain on the edges. I probably would have rendered it rotated by 90 degrees and zoomed in.
