Well the colors may remind you of people but your fractal reminds me more of an antique stylized Oriental horse statue. Old bronze maybe, slightly discolored from age... I can see the arched neck & the flaring mane. Beautiful Olde World image hon !

My pleasure. And besides, that's exactly what I did see, an Oriental bronze statue... Tang Dynasty I think.

Of course, I appreciate the fave.

I'm glad I left that area black then, I had considered putting in some type of textured background but couldn't get one I liked. Thanks for the favage.

Rose Range Lite? Must look that up! love the fractal!

I'm having those problems again with my UF 4.04 renders not antialiasing spheres! Grrrrrrr! Am now doing an 11 hour render of the same image that previously only took 2 hours or so, by increasing the antialiasing just to see what results I get, but I originally got the same image properly antialiased just using it at normal settings! I honestly can't work out what's going wrong here!

FractalEyes In reply to AnnaKirsten [2008-01-13 18:10:40 +0000 UTC]

Thanks so very much for the fave.

RRL is in 'lkm.ucl' and is one that Janet focuses on, at least in the first class. It can be a little difficult to work with but I can give you some tips or send you some params. Also, there is a help file for it but you may have to download it separately from the updated formulas site.

I wish I had a clue about the renders. Unless I'm doing it in print size, I usually render at least double the final image size I want to a .bmp file then scale and convert to .jpg in Gimp or Photoshop.

AnnaKirsten In reply to FractalEyes [2008-01-14 11:28:02 +0000 UTC]

It does look a complicated formula I have to admit! For now I think I'll give it a miss as I'm not well enough to give it focus, but maybe I could get back to you in the future... Thanks for the offer

I noticed Janet suggests in one of her tuts about rendering twice the size etc., but I've never found it necessary to do that at all until possibly now. But that's because something has gone wrong! It shouldn't actually be necessary. I've never done that in the past, and am determined to try and sort out the problem, even if it does mean that for some reason these files have become corrupt and I have to start again! Grrr. (I take it she is talking about rendering to disk too.. I don't understand the need for that in normal circumstances because the anti-alias should sort all that out.)

Anytime regarding the RRL tips.

You're right, of course, it shouldn't be necessary but I find that my images usually look better when I do it that way though I don't like the added wait.

As a matter of interest, have you ever noticed any of mine (other than a couple I have pointed out as being faulty because of a sudden bad render) looking sub-standard in quality? Its almost as though I had mine working extra-perfectly for a year, then suddenly it died!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FractalEyes In reply to AnnaKirsten [2008-01-14 15:40:25 +0000 UTC]

I've never noticed anything of yours looking sub-standard. Not having seen the "working version" it can be hard to know how the renders changed an image. I was worried with this one because before I scaled it down, it was quite jagged even though I used the settings Janet recommended for RRL. On the two I submitted today, I had to add a little "paint" because there was a gap that didn't show up until they were rendered and with them taking at least 6 hours each, I didn't want to re-render them.

AnnaKirsten In reply to FractalEyes [2008-01-14 16:12:24 +0000 UTC]

Interesting that should happen (and your picture looks perfect)...

While I'm working on mine, they just render in a fast-draw method inside the UF program (as you probably know) which isn't anti-aliased. I know sometimes its possible to anti-alias things out that you wanted to keep in there too. It sorta sounds as though mine was rendering exceptionally well before then! I never export an image, but always render to disk. The last couple of times I've had to do some photoshopping on the actual edges of ellipses, whereas I never had to do that before! Have written to Frederik with the parfiles etc., and am waiting (impatiently now) to hear back from him!

I've been gobsmacked today at some of the Apo pictures I've seen! WOW!

And have you noticed that no-one's been in the *Ultra-Fractal pages for more than a week now? There must be a huge backlog of messages waiting, certainly several from me, and it seems that my news article was badly timed. I hope Michele isn't sick...

FractalEyes In reply to AnnaKirsten [2008-01-14 16:19:45 +0000 UTC]

I've exported images but only to get the framing set up while I wait for the render. It would be nice if there were a way to preview the final render so any changes could be made.

I haven't been to the UF page but I have been waiting to hear back about rejoining. If I had the energy I would consider volunteering to help with the group but I am so behind on everything that I just can't.

AnnaKirsten In reply to FractalEyes [2008-01-14 16:44:12 +0000 UTC]

That'd be nice if you did have the time. (Rather stupidly cos I don't have the time really either, only the enthusiasm) I've offered to help with the admin a bit, but of course no-one's read the notes! Obviously the reason you haven't heard back about re-joining is that there's absence, and I'm not sure whether Michele's sick. I do hope she's ok!

I can c how much u r enjoying Fractaling! it's a very, very nice composition! btw fullview is too large to enjoy seeing it fully without having to scroll left or right! Ps: r we still on in helping me out with this damn CCS! I sort of gave up on it, but I think I must use really! note that I'm still totally clueless!

FractalEyes In reply to loojeen [2008-01-13 18:44:48 +0000 UTC]

Thanks very much; I really appreciate the fave. I usually try to scale the image down so it fits on the screen but sometimes, as in this case, when I add the frame I forget to do it again.

I'd be more than happy to help you with CSS, let me know what you need.

loojeen In reply to FractalEyes [2008-01-14 09:22:42 +0000 UTC]

Oh I c but I thought it could be minimized by choosing 600 pixel wide as a fullview instead of its real size when submitting the image! Many of my deviations r really large files, but I choose 600 to make it possible for small screens/monitors. Well, I guess u do that already.
As for CCS thing I will c to it with Stephanie as she also offered help and just started the first step! My how lucky I am to have both of u as warm hearted lady friends!
