James was beside himself with excitement. He'd finally deciphered the last piece of the ancient Tibetan text. He knew, beyond the shadow of a doubt, the whereabouts of the lost city, spoken of in so many stories. He thought about how he would get there. If he took a plane, would he have a place to land? If he took a helicopter, would there be enough air to keep it flying? He'd have to risk it. He found rather easily (to his surprise) someone willing to fly him into the mountains. They set off at once, James' heart beating forcefully against his chest. The helicopter rose higher and higher. Soon a hidden ridge-line appeared before them. If they hadn't been at their vantage point, it would have been easily missed. His excitement grew. They followed the ridge between two awe inspiring peaks, and as they rounded the corner, he saw it. It seemed to defy reality. The city seemed to have sprung out of solid rock. Suddenly, his vision went black. He felt something hard strike him, and then nothing. When he awoke, he was in his hotel room, his head pounding. He got out of bed and had to steady himself before he passed out. Once the silvery black spots had left his vision he walked over to his bags. All of the ancient texts were gone. That was why the pilot was willing to take him. Years of work, gone. He consoled himself by remember the city he'd seen, even if briefly. He vowed one day to return, but felt he was probably lucky enough to be alive.
