Description -EDITED DESCRIPTION BECAUSE THE PREVIOUS WAS TOO MOODY-

The Jokester. Heroic version of the Joker from an alternate universe (Earth-3 to be exact). And, YES, he is a real character and not just a fan-character of my own design. I generally follow the cartoon and movie adaptations of most superhero series rather than the comics because of how tough it is to follow a long-running comic book, so I don't know TOO much about this guy other than the concept of a clown superhero is awesome and I wish there were more of them.

The Jokester is Β©DC Comics

I love this guy. He's crazy and quirky just like his villainous counterpart but is a sweetheart inside. I'd love to see him in a cartoon AND have Mark Hamill do his voice (a good version of the Joker would be a real compliment to Hamill)Β

and I agree, there should be more clown heroes as the evil clown trope is quite clicheΒ

We need a comic book series dealing with Earth-3. Here are the founding members of the Justice Crew, arch-enemies to the Crime Syndacite of America
Ultraman-Alex Luthor Jr. Owner of Luthor Industries, he realizes that with great wealth comes a duty to repay it to the populace. Egotistical and damn spiffy about it
Owlman-The Jokester. We don't know who he was, but after Owlman bleached his skin he decided to make Owlman's war of crime a joke
Superwoman-Mars. The noble Roman God of War, and the tutor of Superwoman. It's his job to make up for the mistake of the Amazons
Power Ring-Yellow Lantern. A corrupt Green Lantern core inspired Sinestro to create his own corps based on fear, specifically striking fear in the hearts of criminals. He's like an outer space Batman
Sea King-Black Manta. A aquatic researcher and fan of the Atlantis stories, Black Manta discovered that the Sea King wanted to invade the land. It's up to Black Manta to stop the Atlanteans
The Green Martian-The White Manhunter. The only White Martian to survive the sycophantic Greens' genocide, the White Manhunter grew to love Earth. He formed the Justice Crew
Johnny Quick-Yellow Flash. Sir Thawne was a 25th century cop, working to stop Speedsters from screwing with the timeline. He detests the Quicks with a passion

I'm not terribly familiar with all of these characters. I'm more a casual fan of the DC and Marvel universes. It's just that the idea of a heroic version of the Joker sounded awesome to me.

Well, Matt, while I deeply love your comics (and your work in general), if you feel it's for the best to leave them behind for now, I'm still here to support you. And while I can't really give very good advice to you about this--and we all need to find our own way/decisions on matters like this--do try to remember that even when the world can seem to be abominable, there's always a sliver of love/light to be found. Just as well, even within the most vile, despicable person, there's some minuscule grain of goodness to be had. Simply put, always remember Eric Idle's little ditty about the bright side of life.

Ahem. Er, anyway, this is a very nice tribute to a sadly underutilized addition to the DC universe, and I, like you, hope he ends up alive again.

Don't worry, Travis. I'm doing a bit better now. I was just focusing on some darker aspects of life at the time. And Heather suggested I give Planet Z a short break and maybe work on some fan-projects that I don't take as seriously, like WARPZONE or something.

Despite the dark theme and thought that went behind it, I really like the way this picture looks! As far as... the lines and coloring look nice, clean, and sharp!

Well I'd hate to see you abandon your comics since you have all these ideas for them, but I'd much rather encourage a person to do something they want and enjoy than something that is expected of them.
You gots to be true to yourself!

I believe he's in Countdown for five issues, then DC kills him off. Linkara was quite PO'd about that.

Countdown could have been something spectacular, but instead... you know. At least the Jokester makes an appearance in Batman: The Brave and The Bold, and he doesn't get killed (I assume it was the Jokester).

Please don't lynch me for this, but I'm really not all that familiar with the Batman fandom at all. *dodges bullets, crossbow bolts, et cetera* So forgive any noob-ish remarks on this piece of art.

Although bashin' stupid brains in with huge wooden mallets sounds like a hell of a lot of fun.

He is basically a combination of a mobster and a mad scientist.
He murdered Harleen Quinzel, which prompted the Jokester's origin.

He is also a founding member of the CSA (Crime Syndicate of America) allong with other supervillains like Ultraman (not the Japanese one), Superwoman, Power Ring and Johnny Quick

They fight against superheroes like Lex Luthor, Two-Face, Riddler and Sir Mixyezpitelik

He's basically an evil twin version of Batman. I have to admit I don't know much about the characters as I never read Countdown (the story that they were in), but the concept of a heroic Joker intrigued me when I heard of it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

MonkeyOverlord98 In reply to FractiousLemon [2011-07-09 06:11:12 +0000 UTC]

from what i've heard is that Owlman is actually Thomas Wayne Jr. and that his little brother , BRuce, and his parents were shot. so he's no technically batman's evil twin

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

FractiousLemon In reply to MonkeyOverlord98 [2011-07-09 15:08:38 +0000 UTC]

The "evil twin" concept isn't always exactly a literal one. It can really just be used to refer to a character who is the complete antithesis of another while retaining similar qualities. For instance, Shadow in the Sonic the Hedgehog series was intended to be an evil twin for Sonic even though there's no actual physical connection between them. It still works, however, because he is for all accounts an evil version of Sonic. He looks almost identical to him and has similar powers, but his personality is the complete polar opposite of Sonic's.

Long story short, Owlman is an "evil twin" variant of Batman even though he's not literally Bruce's twin in any sense.

Countdown was a pretty shitty storyline, the Jokester is one of the few good things that came from it

However they used his character in the "Batman: the Brave and the Bold" cartoon, as well as having a cameo in the "Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths" movie

Even in other countries, death is not always permanent if a character is popular enough. Working in a medium that gives you full reign on the forces of reality means you can completely screw mortality over if the whim takes you.
