As I said to Scott when he pointed this image out: "She wasn't going to be sexually molested by them, though. Only violently mutilated and probably eaten by the creature the tentacles belonged to. That's completely different and family-friendly!"

Looks great.
There are other publishing options besides Lulu.
Options which probably incolve spending more money than you make, yes. But it's okay because it is out of love.
And I'd buy one.

Yeah, I like Lulu. Their quality is excellent and perfectly serves what I need. Maybe I'll seek out some bigger businesses some day, but for now I'm happy with this.

Or me Gouard! Where did you get that spiffy Z? I've seen something like that before...

But why does it look like the hippity-hop medalion of Coach Z of Homestar Runner.com? Really, why?

It's Shake and Bake! And I helped! Seriously, I drew and colored it myself.

Wait, how much did The Experimental Dr. X cost?

$10 doesn't sound too steep to me, not least of all because it practically halves in conversion to sterling.

And I look forward to the alien massages!

Messages, you fool! Not massages! *blinks* Hey, we just re-enacted a bit from an un-uploaded Fritz & Donna comic my friends and I made once! Weird. Anyway, this is only about the size of a typical monthly comic book, so the price seemed a bit much to me. But, hey, if you're fine with paying for it, I won't complain!

I actually have to admit that I myself wouldn't buy the book right now. But I know some people have been salivating for it for a long time now, so I thought I'd offer the chance. If anything, though, you can get a download of it for cheap and read it that way!

Mixing 1930's-1950's styles with 1990's styles isn't really too difficult. The cartoon industry really went back to its roots in the 90's and a good eye can notice the heavy inspiration of very early artwork in it.

Thanks! I think one of the reasons why it's taken me so long to get this done was because God wanted me to finally decide what, exactly, my series was going to feel like! *laughs* I've always had a special place in my heart for those campy old horror/scifi comics and movies from the 1950's thanks to MST3K, and I finally decided that my comics should have a sort of odd mixture of oldschool material from the 40's and 50's as well as some of the surrealism of the 90's. Very little 21st Century material aside from some Japanese influence will ever be seen since, at least at this point, the average 21st Century cartoon stinks. *laughs*

I just downloaded it from Lulu, and I gotta say, it was well worth it! I can't wait to see the full thing in color! You're well on your way, Matt, fer shizzle.

I don't know about YOU, but if the "lousy 30+ page comic book" was done by you, I'd fork over ten bucks without a second thought!

Oh wait, except I'm broke.

This complicates matters.

*laughs* Still, I'd feel bad making people spend that much. It's available now in greyscale for six dollars and it doesn't look too bad. Though once I have a website up and running for the series, I'll probably take the individual comics down for sale until I have enough to do a bigger color collection that's worth a bigger price.

Bit of a shame about the printing price. The cover looks very promising and well-drawn. Have you tried looking for some self-publishing web sites instead of going to various printing studios? Would be easier for you to release your first issue by cyberspace.

FractiousLemon In reply to QwertyChris [2008-04-11 21:33:56 +0000 UTC]

That's actually what I'm talking about! *laughs* But I think I might go ahead and publish the individual issues in greyscale to begin with.
