(Fat Fantasy Short Story - A brief history of how Fatland, the fattest country in the world, was founded.)

This town was like any other. The people were also like any other. It all started to change some time ago when one girl decided to gain weight. She was already chubby and it didn't take long before she was getting fat. It was then she admitted that she loved being fat and was purposefully getting fatter. Her parents spoiled her, they had already supplied her with enough food so she was chubby. But now they provided a seemingly unlimited supply of fattening food as well as money to by takeaways and snacks. They even made encouraging comments about her weight gain. She soon told her closest friends and it wasn't long until the rest of her school caught onto what her secret desires were. It was impossible to ignore this already chubby girl stuffing her face so often that she was never seen without food and it appeared she was fatter with each day. Strangely, almost everyone who knew about her dream was aiding her gain! Her obsession with obesity seemed to spread, the fatter she got, the more people were interested in her story. People in the town started to gain weight at a rate faster than anywhere else in the country. For some the gain was from no longer caring about society's standards of weight and fat, others gained because they too loved the feeling of being fat and stuffed. A few were disgusted by all this, however, over time they either accepted this new trend, joined the weight gain or moved away and then it wasn't long before the town had become the fattest in the country and then the world.

Although people were happier as the town grew fatter, problems started to appear with the growing obesity. The infrastructure was no longer appropriate: buses could now only fit half the number of people they could before. Chairs in schools and offices would collapse under the enormous weight of the fat people sitting on them. Even doors and hallways were now too narrow for the fattest to squeeze through. With these problems the town had to adapt, but also find new streams of revenue to pay for the changes.

Immigration was quickly looked at as a way to produce a new income for the town. This because as the town got fatter, it also got larger. People were moving to this town in large numbers from all over the world. People wanting to be freed from the restrictions of their societies. Whether it was the freedom to eat, be fat or love other fatties, they flocked to the town. With these new people the town implemented new charges to move there. Also, with the town spending huge amounts of money on importing food from other areas and countries, the town managed to make deals so that places they imported food from would help with the development of the town. Since these other countries were now making huge amounts of money they were now dependent on the town's gluttony to sustain them.

After the new policies and infrastructure were put in place to accommodate for people's obesity, the town entered its largest phase of growth, both in population and weight. All doorways and corridors were widened. The buses were improved so that the customer's obesity didn't impede the journey by dropping the suspension too low, or reducing the speed so much. It became law that all chairs in public spaces and the work place must be able to hold at least 500lbs. Lifts and escalators were put in every building with two or more stories as well as people had gotten lazier and others struggled to move their huge fat bodies around. The town was unrecognisable from what it was before and was now like no where else in the world, let alone the country it was a part of. This lead to its succession from the country. There was a vote and the town left to become the world's newest country and Fatland was chosen as its name. The original fat piggy had become a myth, but the memories of her were still celebrated as it was her gluttony that created Fatland. Although it was now decades after her journey started she was still thought of, but she made no effort to take any credit. It's believed she is by far the fattest person in the world and all she does is eat, no longer able to leave the house or even move, not that she wants to. She's still happy stuffing her FAT belly.

As Fatland grew into itself as a country its culture changed. People openly gained weight, no one ever complimented someone for losing weight, instead it was now 'You look amazing. Have you gained weight?' The most famous people in Fatland: musicians, models and actors were amongst some of the fattest people there. There were TV shows where the winner was who had gained the most weight, 'The Biggest Loser' had become 'The Biggest Gainer'. The national sport was eating competitions and schools had replaced PE with this as well and now keeping a log of weight gain was very common for students. Most restaurants were 'all-you-can-eat' as restaurants struggled to make large enough portions for A La Carte menus. There were even role-play hotels, where residents would get the chance to see what it was like to live in a 'thin country'. In these hotels doors were normal size, beds and chairs were of normal strength. It allowed customers to indulge in their fat fantasies. The most extreme change must've been the food, most places in the world were trying to reduce the amount of fat and calories in food, while in Fatland they were increasing them. Food was made to be calorically dense, without being anymore filling, allowing growing fatties to stuff themselves even more. Food was even positively advertised as being high in calories or especially fattening.

The country's population quickly grew, from 10s of thousands, when it was a town, to well over half a million after it became an established country. The people there were the happiest in the world, no longer worrying about being thin and were now able to satisfy their innate gluttony. There were so many new jobs constantly being created since many citizens were to fat to carry out any kind of physical work, while the fattest of society required constant feeding as they couldn't do it themselves. But even these thin people who would move to Fatland with no interest in gaining weight would soon get chubby and once it started, it wouldn't stop they would end up as fat as anyone else in Fatland. It seemed the only people who managed to avoid gaining weight were thin 'FAs', even so over half would gain significant amount of weight and end up at least obese. It was now several decades since Fatland became its own country and by this time around 40% of the population was 'super-obese' (BMI >50), 40% was obese (BMI 30-49), while 15% was overweight (these were largely people who had recently moved there) and only 5% was either 'normal' or underweight. The average weight for women was around 340lbs, while men was closer to 310lbs. This was since women in Fatland led more sedentary lives than men and therefore gained more weight.

Fatland was a very successful country, drawing people from all over the world to live and work there. The people there were fat and happy...and getting fatter.
