Description
Remake of Voodoo Headache, [link]inspired by DA's Draw this again -contest.
But as usual, I veered off in the wrong direction somewhere.
I don't think it's better than the original, just different.
More voodoo, less gothic cartoony chick in black water.
I love the eel-creature.
Findin an entrance where they can...

Definitely less cartoony. I think I prefer this one. She looks a lot more sultry and a LOT more dangerous. Love the eel too

Thank you
Yeah, the previous one wasn't really dangerous, she was more the victim of them there curious headaches. Wonder where on earth they were coming from?

I like both versions. They feel like completely different pieces to tell you the truth. Fun!

Thank you. They don't tell me if I've improved though, being so different. How will I ever know now? *strikes a melodramatic pose*

hee hee...Keep that melodramatic pose as long as possible.
I actually think it does show improvement to tell you the truth.
It shows that you're willing to try different approaches and that keeps you fresh and helps you to keep improving.
When I do art shows, the people who's booth looks the exact same year after year is boring to me.
If you can wow people from year to year, you're on to something.
God, I sound like a sappy motivational speaker...

Thanks, but really, you'd be better off trying to motivate me with the "Repetition is the mother of all learning" -routine. Do you know how many times I've decided not to draw anymore of *add clichee here*? And failed? And failed miserably?

hee hee....Like my wife says, when I'm not sculpting, creating, drawing,....I dry up.
I get really cranky if too much time passes from not getting in to my studio.
I think we as artists are wired in a weird way.
There's days where I try putting down some lines in my sketch book and I swear I forgot how to draw.
Other days it just flows.
I don't think I should question my odd behavior..at least THAT odd behavior.

*noddest* I got a "dayjob" myself, but I need to keep doing weird stuff on the side. Doodling, poking at pixels and scribbling. It keeps ze spirits up. My dayjob is fun too at times, but it can be demanding on ze olde noggin. Don't know if I've mentioned this, but I'm a translator. I do subtitles for all manner of tv-programs.

I didn't know that...that's so cool.
How many languages do you know and are you self taught?

Oh, that's a tough question. I really work with just English and Finnish. But I speak Swedish poorly, pretend to understand a little German, brag about having studied Latin for half a year and am blissfully still thankful I don't have to study French anymore. (I chose French all by myself, but what an idiot I was at 14, eh?)
And no, I'm not self-taught. I actually studied for six years to be competent to watch tv-programs all day long.

Can't believe you started studying French at 14.
I've always wondered why your English is so good.
I always get annoyed though when people from other countries apologize for their English being bad.
As if our language is THE language to master.
I would love to learn Japanese but will have to settle for a few sparse words here and there.
It's always interesting to hear what people do as well.
Getting paid to watch TV...hmmmm.
Well, gotta get back to my 'How to Train Your Dragon' for the 7th time. I'm a dork.

Unfortunately I can't choose the programs. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you spend your summer looking at episodes of the Bachelor, over and over again... Oh well.

The Bachelor would be mind numbing I bet.
When you are in normal conversations with people do you find yourself wanting to sub-title them sometimes.
I know for me if I'm sculpting faces or anything I'll find myself drifting off while listening to someone talk and be obsessed with how I would sculpt a fold in their mouth or eyelid.

I suspect wanting to translate everyday conversations would be more of an interpreter's problem and I was never good at that. Plus, you'd have to have real life conversations with people - I was never good at that either
No, the problems start when I watch a show or a movie just for fun. Inner translator will not just read the subtitles, oh no. Must pay attention to timing, translation, grammar, typos...
And if there are no subtitles, I do sometimes wonder: "how would I translate that?" Especially if it's a wordplay...
Damn em wordplays

That makes a lot of sense.
I'm going to appreciate my subtitles in a whole new way now.
One last question...Is the English language the worst for wordplays?
I would think we've got more strange plays on words than any other language.

I don't have any empirical, pseudo-scientific or semi-coherent data on that subject, I'm afraid. Honestly, it's not really a matter of what language you're speaking, just how you abuse it...
