Description This is the second illustration for 'Relative Misery' by Douglas E. Wright for Black Ink Horror issue #2. This one took forever!

The names on the tombstones are the names of the other artists on the BIH art team. I hope that doesn't upset anyone! It's an homage of sorts to the incredible artists working for this magazine. I think I got everyone, if I missed someone, I am terribly sorry!

Holy cow, that's cool! I absolutely LOVE how you drew this--it is so forboding and moody (maybe Gothic is the right word?). And the graves--that is such a sweet touch. I can certainly see the amount of work that went in to this, wow. A fav for sure!!!

Your illustrations never cease to amaze me. You create this whole little world on the page--really makes me want to read the story. Do you know how much the magazines will cost when they are finished?

fragilewing7 In reply to Geolyn [2007-01-09 07:03:15 +0000 UTC]

thank you so much! you are too sweet.

the magazine is $6.50 as far as i know. you can order here: [link] , look for the page that says 'sideshow press'

if the other stories are as good as the ones i've been assigned so far, it should be an awesome magazine. i'm excited just to be a part of it.

Nope, I'm in issue #1 as well. I don't think issue #2 is up to order yet, just #1.

Nice shades between the light and darkness; contrast shows a lot. I can't seem to make out what's behind her though. On the floor inbetween the chunks of snow. Mind telling of what it is?

fragilewing7 In reply to EinherjarSpirit [2007-01-08 15:18:05 +0000 UTC]

do you mean on the ground in front of her? in the foreground? if that's what you mean, it's her dog, a basset hound, with a scalpel in his neck, and then to the right of that is a top hat. it's part of the story, but i don't want to give away all of the details!

so glad you like it, thanks for the nice comments. its good to hear from you!

happy new year!

thanks. i learned a lot doing those vines, sometimes i get way too involved in the details, but sometimes if you just suggest something it works much better. so it reid to suggest that ivy. thanks so much!

thank you very much! i'm glad you like it. hopefully all those little details will print well. if i had known you were now a BIH artist yourself (yay!!!) i would have made one especially for my new friend. we inkers have to stick together, right?

Stick...ink...LOL, you funny!! Just kidding.

You know what, I was at the office doodling with my pocket pen and I can out with this shading technique that I can only get with a regular pen. I know it goes against what people say about needing professional pens and expensive paper, but I can't help it if I can do better with the cheap pens. What should I do???

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

fragilewing7 In reply to dragyourblood [2007-01-08 04:52:27 +0000 UTC]

do what feels right to you, but still expirement with 'upgrading' your pens or paper sometimes. try new things, the pens i use are not very expensive at all and they last for a pretty long time. but, do what feels right to you and screw everybody else, there is no 'right' in art.
