So, after receiving some pretty harsh criticism from an artist I really admire, I decided to give this illustration another shot. Some of his criticism was that the corn didn't work as background, the shadows were messy, and that it didn't have the usual amount of detail I do. After living with his feedback for a few days, I decided he was right. So we can think of the first Green Thumb as a rough draft.I decided to use pointalism (I usually do cross-hatching) for the ground because I had trouble keeping clarity through the whole piece with cross hatching, I think that's why the shadows looked messy in the other version.
Please let me know if this is an improvement, I still have about three weeks before I have to turn this in.

Meghan, beautiful job on this one! I don't know what the story is about, but your illustration has certianly made me want to read it. I have to admit that this one looks much better than the other (and I liked that). There is just so much more contrast and detail--awesome work! I can't wait to share space with you in this issue!

Yeah! This is a much more detailed piece, the small spiders(?) on the ear are just cool! The fancy ketchup.... just fun! And the Gash station? Is that a pun on something or a typo?
Hmmm.... I think I'll stick with my theory about the serial murderer's date.
This is definitely higher quality, eye-catching.

'gash station' is not a typo (but thanks for looking close enough to see that) it is a personal joke for me, and it kind of fits the piece too.
as soon as it goes into publication, i'll let you know so you can read the story and see if you are right! (you're pretty close)

I think the pointalism in place of the cross hatching definatly breaks the picture up and increases the clarity... but i didnt se hwat was wrong with the detail in the last one...*kicks critic in crotch* ... but yeh... love it

that is completely untrue! we just have different styles! i need to know if something isn't working or doesn't look right. that's why i post my stuff here, so i can improve. if i just wanted a sunshine gun blown up my ass i would have joined myspace. i meant it when i said that i trust your opinion, your feedback is important to me.
