Description Pen and ink. Original demensions: 14 X 10

This piece is of an extremely personal nature, and I really debated on whether or not I should submit it. But I find that sharing helps in the healing process, right? So, I'm sharing, please be sensitive to that.

I know the anatomy is somewhat funky on this, I did that on purpose. I wanted her to appear flat or almost hollow to draw your eye towards the words. I really can do anatomy, just look at the rest of my gallery. (teehee, shameless self-promotion, right?) But I usually get a comment on this when people are going through my portfolio about the anatomy, so I thought I would explain.

It is always interesting to me what words and phrases people pick up on in this. Some people find the positive, some the negative. At first I planned out was I was going to write, but that lasted about five minutes before I just let it go and started writing whatever came to mind. And sorry that the scan isn't so great, some of the words are lost or too faint.

Again, please be sensitive when commenting on this piece, I would appreciate comments very much, but ... I don't know what I'm trying to say ... jeez, somebody hug me already!

Gorgeous

Brings new meaning to spilling your guts or thoughts for someone. Something, not even the unbelievably realistic artworks can compete with.

'wow' pretty much sums it up.... ^-^

It's just... wow.

Can't think of a better word than that.

allure, appeal to, bait, beckon, beguile, bewitch, bring, captivate, charm, come on*, court, drag, draw, enchant, endear, engage, enthrall, entice, entrance, exert influence, fascinate, freak out*, grab, hook, induce, interest, intrigue, inveigle, invite, kill, knock dead*, knock out*, lure, magnetize, mousetrap*, pull, rope in*, score, seduce, send*, slay*, solicit, spellbind, steer, suck in*, tempt, turn on, vamp, wile, wow*

To the thesauraus!

This has all of those words too. ^-^

Wow, what an interesting, provacative piece. Love the technique (that hatching you did on her body is unusual and very cool), and the anatomy looked fine to me--she just looks thin. I also love the idea and how you layed it out, with her to the far left expelling the words out to the right. Very cool. I've been going through, trying to read most of the words--that's where the power of the piece is. There is just so much to take in. Very well done.

Yes, I can imagine that putting up something as pesonal as that piece might be a bit intimidating. You did, however, explain it well, and I think that people will be sensitive to it. Nice job.

Meghan, I love the concept on this one.
The getting rid of all negagtive that has built up over all the time of repression.

You gotta work a little bit more on proportion and maybe get some more detail in it.
Other than that... great.

I like artwork that comes from the heart and the message in it is much more important than the technical execution.

thanks, i really kind of wanted the body to be a bit childish in execution, flat and hollow, with everything just a bit out of whack, you know? but there was something very cathartic about doing this piece, i didn't want it to be about being 'technically correct', the body is more a drawing of the image i had of myself, i don't know if that makes any sense ...

velador In reply to fragilewing7 [2006-07-13 00:03:45 +0000 UTC]

it makes complete sense. I was just commenting before I read your description, and stuck my foot so deep in my mouth that I got heartburn now
Sorry 'bout that.
(note to self: read description first!)

No, it's not silly at all. It makes it more personal, especially for a piece like this

I look at this and think of what may happen when all the pent up feelings, emotions, words of anger, of biting your tongue, etc all reaches a boiling pint. It just becomes to much for you to handle and it all comes out at once .

fragilewing7 In reply to deadpink [2006-07-12 23:21:37 +0000 UTC]

that's pretty much what happened, i kept my mouth shut for over 10 years, then it kind of all came out like a flood.

Very good. I don't think a technical critique would be appropriate for this piece--it is purely emotional (at least to me) My initial thought was of release. Once I started seeing the details, I think that my first thought was accurate to a degree but there is much more to this than just expurgation. The deeply personal work is always the scariest to make public--for that I salute you and admire you for it.

and cause I like em --one more

yes, it is kind of scary having it up in my gallery, sometimes i feel brave and sometimes i feel stupid for putting it up there. thanks so much for your kind words of encouragement.

WiredRogue In reply to fragilewing7 [2006-07-13 00:48:37 +0000 UTC]

Your welcome. I've had that feeling of vulnerability force me to remove some of my more personal works--poems (which are about as intimate as it gets with my work) I don't know if I'll ever put them back up, but if I find some people I can trust and give me honest opinions, I might bring them back. I once wrote about how it's the artists duty to expose inner thoughts and feelings. It's very easy to say and a whole other thing to do :/

vulnerable is an excellent word for how i feel having that peice up here. i understand about your poetry, it is difficult to hear an 'outsiders' view sometimes of something so internal.

<--- just cause you asked for one ... and i dont give them out to just any'ald sod... so feel special
thye concept of this piece is great.. very insightive, and your deliberate emphasis on the 'inperfect anatomy' (nothing against the model) add to the meaning of the picture 10 fold

...plus the shameless self promotion you sneaked in there was very subtle
