Description
More anatomy practice! Trying to work in charcoal to loosen up, my stuff is so tight and sometimes overworked. I was going for that loose, gestural style somthing like this: [link] by but I just can't seem to get the hang of it.I used a camera this time! Instead of all the mirrors (that was too time consuming and frustrating) My nose looks a bit funky (but then again I have a funky nose

I think that you did a great job with a loose medium, but getting good detail and a good sense of light.
I love the series but this is my favorite.

Very nice! I can't use charcoals myself (I'm too sloppy with them), so I can certainly admire anyone who can. Nice pose (although that must have been uncomfortable) and cool angle.

i took your advice and used my camera this time! so the pose wasn't too bad, just took me a bit to get the shot and angle i wanted.
thanks!

grey or black? is that the one your talking about? it's gorgeous! you have such a wonderful, simple style. you capture the essence of the object your drawing, instead of getting bogged down in the details, like i do!

Well, so far guys that show up at devmeets are ... well, majority of guys (basing this off of that last meet). If you need practice, just ask and I'm sure we'll be more than enough to model. Although, you might lose half of the group if you want nudity.
If it helps, I never use the tip of my charcoals when drawing. I always go in with shadows to get a good glimpse of where things are supposed to be as of contrast. Also, you may have focused a bit much on the hands probably. My stuff isn't that great because I bring the body into focus over hands and such. If you look, it's not even there... I'm allowing the viewers to picture it themselves.
I also believe Helios, like Mitch mentioned, is supposed to be free. You come in and go... I just don't know where it is.

thanks for the tips. sometimes i use charcoal as if it were a pencil or pen, i need to remember that it is its own tool, with it's own way of working with it.

No problem. It's really fun finding otherways to draw with the same medium, like when my teach said the eraser can also be a drawing tool rather than just a error-remover.

Very tough pose, foreshortening out the wazzoo. I would be absolutely crippled, keep it up! Believe me, after two semesters of life drawing im still rarely satisfied by my work, just takes time.
As for drawing men, I can absolutly relate, I find it much easier to draw men than women. I just think its easier to draw what you know and are comfortable with, (lets see, I've been a male for... 20 years now?) so, again just keep working at it.
Go to Helios on Tuesday nights from 10 until 2am they have life drawing, I have been meaning to go, but just havnt gotten around to it. Look for a guy named Bobby, (Fischer?) excellent model, Chris and I worked with him alot last semester.
Good luck! Great work! Yay!

Excellent. Yea its tight bit it's really good! To really loosen up try to use large chunky sticks of charcoal. You won't be able to work details that way.
Yes I'll model for ya. Seriously. Not sure about that 3am thing though unless your talking weekends
