Description
It's only a self-portrait because I'm, the cheepest model in town!I started working in charcoal to loosen myself up a bit. My ink and prisma color work is so tight and sometimes over-detailed. So, I started to work in charcoal to try to relax that tendency a bit. I love that sort of gestural style that is more suggestive then realistic, so that's what I was going for. But what happened? It turned out tight and over detailed just like my other stuff! hehe. Oh well, I am still happy with the result!
I give permission to and to put this in their gallery

Wow, how did you draw yourself while posing like that?
Self-portraits are the cheapest and so are friends who like to be drawn.

I use mirrors most of the time, first I do a really quick sketch as reference in case I happen to move too far out of whack. Then I start on another piece of paper to do the more detailed drawing. Although, I will probably start using my camera, I started with mirrors because I didn't have a digital camera at the time.

Well if your were trying for loose gestural, then yes it didn't end that way, but for what it is, it's solid. Hatchwork is very good, anatomy seems accurate and well porpotioned, your form has a good sense of mass. Yes the fingers and your ear are a little tighter than the rest of the drawing--when comparing line quality, but that's nitpicking with a microscope. The drawing is well positioned on the paper --I think this is excellent work!

Well drawn and quite provacative. I like how you shaded with the hatching...very cool. I hear you about being the cheapest model in town. I can't tell you how many times I find myself locked in the bedroom with the digital camera...it's kinda sad, but it works when you need a reference.

thank you so much for spending so much time in my gallery! i really appreciate your insightful comments. it is nice to hear specific details, instead of a generic "that's great!" (not that i don't appreciate that too! hehe)
I usually use a complex setup of mirrors instead of a camera, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't! but i'm trying to improve on my anatomy knowledge, so not only am i the cheepest model in town i'm also the only one willing to work at 3:00 in the morning!

Hey, I'm glad that I found it. I LOVE pen and ink work, so I always try to seek out and watch the pen and ink artists. I don't know how I didn't find your stuff earlier as I'm always perusing the tradtional/macabre art posts. As for the comments, I'm not a fan of the generic ones, so I try to at least put down what appealled to me about the drawing enough to make me want to comment.
Mirrors? Dear God, you're ambitious! I just grab the digital and snap a shot of what I need. My wife and kids get drawn in a models a lot as well. It's the old "honey, could you please hold your arm just like this". I feel bad for them some times. lol Like you, I've been trying to improve on the anatomy (I used to do only comic book art) and the best way to learn it is to draw from it.
And, yes, it's very tough to find a model at 3 am! LOL

you probably didn't find me because i just recently (as in three days ago) was able to get my traditional art in my gallery. i didn't have a scanner. so it was motsly my photography before that. i'm working on getting the rest of my traditional stuff up here. ugh! it takes a long time to scan and resize files, tedious work.
i'm so glad you found me! i LOVE your gallery, i can tell i'll be spending a lot of time there.

That would explain it. I was trying to figure out how I missed them...I usually key right in on inks. Yes, the scanning/posting is a pain in the ass. I took a Sunday to get a lot of my stuff loaded in. Well, can't wait to see what else you load up.
And thank you for checking out my gallery (and glad you like it)!

haha. you know, most of my self-portrait don't have my face in them! (i wonder what that says about me!) you'll see when i get the rest of them up. but even in the angel series i just submitted, my face isn't showing. i guess i meant this one to be more of a nude study than a self-portrait, trying to work on my anatomy.
