Description Alrighty, this is a great way to fix "high school" pencil work for photoshop fun. Just finished your great masterpiece, but hate the monocrome nature? Here's a fun way to make any pencil work look like colored pencil!

1 - Make a picture! Okay, theres a lot to this step, but it's not what we're focusing on. Here's a sample for today(NOT MINE!) [link]

2 - Pick a color darker than the area you want to shade. Go to Brush>Overlay at 100% opacity and brush in the area with either a fuzzy or sharp edge brush.

3 - With a color lighter than the area you want to shade, Go to Brush>Normal at 10% opacity and brush with a fuzzy edge brush. This is to fix that white area that isn't covered by overlay. If necessary, go over the white areas again.

Tada! Be sure to do this on a copied layer, in case you don't like the color. Remember that you cannot erase the color in this method, so always work on a copy.

how come you don't just use the "color" brush mode?

Because of one problem area. If you look at the pencil work at school, light shading is sometimes so white it's not picked up by the scanner, and highlights come out as completely white. Also, color gets midtones well, but not extremes, which pencil works have. If you want, I can show a better example.

so this thing you're doing is putting in the really light midtones that the scanner doesn't get?

Yeah, I picked a bad shade on that one, but that picture had a link on the site, so it was easier to use.
