How did you make this without mixing the background and foreground? Did you use masking fluid?

I did. I love masking fluid, although it isn't too well regarded in the watercolouring world, haha.

Started in the winter. Now I'm hooked, I paint almost everyday when I come home from work.
I like masking fluid too, though I'm sure I could learn to use it even better!
So you started by using masking fluid for the stems, then did the night sky, then removed the fluid and painted each stem? Or did you actually start by painting the stems, let dry, put masking fluid over them and then painted the sky?
I have a lot to learn.
