Description Witness the power of nature...

The Mapleton Monster. The unstoppable supercell. We couldn't stop shooting this thing even ater we had left it and begun the drive home. A set of three training supercells developed into a squall line across northeast Iowa as we headed back to Omaha. Each individual updraft was incredibly electrically active, especially the lead one. Whenever there was a flash of lightning, you could still make out the storm's structural features despite the fact we were miles and miles away You can see several different levels of inflow on the right side. You can tell how smooth that "stack of plates" is! Too bad we didn't get that kind of structure during the daytime My favorite part, though, is how the crunchy convective updraft above was frozen in time in this image. It's really tough to get crisp storm photos at night, but this one worked out perfectly. Now I'm just kicking myself for not shooting in RAW and doing a timelapse!

Holy cow... every time you post something like this, I think of the movie Twister and how exciting it was when they chased tornadoes. I would have LOVED to had been there with you to see this in person.

Absolutely phenomenal!
