Description This would be the best structure shot I've taken in my entire life. It tops my list. Hands down, #1. Dumas, TX, thank you!

how far is Dumas from Del Rio? I got some lightning shots I will be posting up soon during a nasty storm a few days ago. There was a tornado vortex north of Amistad Lake here which is just across the road. I wish it would have come during daylight hours but it was in the middle of the night. ANYWAY! great shot. I love the swirling almost blue of the clouds and then the darkness against the green of the grass. Makes good contrast!

Del Rio is in the southern-most part of the state, if I'm not mistaken. Dumas would be way far up north in the Panhandle close to the OK border. This was truly a BEAST of a storm. I'm just wishing it didn't have such dinky tornadoes during the daylight hours. The good ones were at night, when we could barely see them. But overall, the structure was incredible. I couldn't have asked for a more photogenic storm.

I know how much it sucks when there's a good vortex at night and you can't see jack. It's dangerous too, but if you can get it illuminated by lightning, it's freakin' sweet!

We usually look at the Del Rio soundings to get an idea of how much moisture is coming in from the Gulf. It's a good indicator of what's headed up into the Plains. Do you do any meteorology? If so, I highly suggest checking out my college's weather website, [link] It's got all the latest weather data and models.

I'm glad you like the photo! Thanks again!

Awesome! Yeah we saw the storm chasers (the ones from tv) running through Artesia NM. There was a vortex that produced a good tornado up by Ruidoso. My grandparents got to watch it tear up the valley into the mountains which is very un tornado like behavior. I always thought they weren't supposed to form in areas like that.

Anyway. I don't know how to get my camera to take pictures in the dark -_- so I had to use my sisters camera for the lightning. And the night that we had the vortex so close it was raining so hard I wouldn't have been able to see one untill it was right on top of us.

I know a little bit about meteorology, enough to understand big storms and super cells the like. I will check it out! Storms are my favorite subject and I would love to see a tornado on the ground at its fullest.

No problem. Look forward to more stunning weather shots through the summer!

Yeah, we ran into them too. I actually had dinner with Sean Casey (TIV) while we were in Norman the day of the big outbreak. Seeing TIV2 up close was just the most amazing experience I've ever had. That thing is a BEAST!

But that is pretty cool. We tried chasing NM for a day, but didn't get anything aside from some photogenic super cells (which I didn't post because my photos were a suckfest that day). Kinda sucked, but damn, that area is beautiful! We ended up in Carlsbad before heading east back to TX to spend the night in Hereford.

Meteorology is an awesome science. I've loved storms all my life and I'm in the process of transitioning from design to meteorology.

^^ Eh the suckfest just happens some times XP. NM gets some amazing clouds and storms. Lol Im going into biology here at the college. I may minor in meteorology though.

Give meteorology a shot. It is a lot of fun. And you get to storm chase.

Meh... It wasn't so bad until we left Dumas and headed to Stinnett, where we got slammed by some pretty big hail. In my terms, that would be about the size of a golf ball. I haven't seen anything bigger than that, but I hope to!
