Description
One of the great, great views at Grand Canyon is from Point Sublime accessible - with some difficulty - only from the North Rim.
The road to Pt. Sublime is a largely un-maintained dirt road with numerous places for vehicles to run into problems.
There are 2 access points to the road, one inside the park and another in the North Kabab National Forest which eventually leads you into the national park.
I know about the problems as I got stuck once in my 2WD pickup truck.
Fortunately someone with a winch came along and got me going again.
Nonetheless, a 4WD vehicle is a very good idea.
And...check the weather as a heavy t-storm can make the road impassable: mud, muck, quagmire (choose the best description)

But, the view is well-worth the trouble.
Massive views up and down the canyon are prevalent.
After getting stuck, I shied away from going out to Point Sublime for a couple of years.
But, while working on the North Rim, I went a spent a night at the small & very primitive (no water/toilets) campground.
(an Backcountry permit is required to camp overnight)

So, I decided to try again using the route which started outside the park.
And, looking to the east (up-canyon) I was rewarded for my efforts with this awe-inspiring rainbow appearing over Confucius and Mencius Temples.
There was one other photographer out there using a medium-format camera.
We said nothing to each other until the scene had passed.
When, we both had big smiles and congratulated each other on our good fortune.

This image appeared on the cover of the 1999 Arizona Highways wall calendar and was largest amount I ever received for a single photo.
