Description
Well, this was supposed to be a self portrait at first, but then it changed... It's the story of a computer addict, who is me. I spend way too much time on my computer playing games, though, my Cupid doesn't cry, thank you very much! But the sun does reach from closed curtains (to avoid reflections) to call me outside and I say "just one more turn". My friend Fang is watching from the corner, plants grow around me unnoticed, the computer stole my brain. Spiders like dark, dusty, forgotten places. God I'm so corny, but that's really what I was thinking when doing this. There, now you all know, it's nothing too intelligent, damn machine!Edit: 30 x 22 inch ink and watercolor
Edit: Originally this was submitted in 2005, but I went back to it at the end of 2008 and finished it.

Awesome piece. Hmm...if this is what happens when you surrender your brain to the comp, maybe, just maybe, its worth it stealing your brain

I noticed the arrow in the head...reminds me of that monk in the novel "A Canticle For Leibowitz" by William M. Miller, Jr. (which I enjoyed reading while lining up during enrollment back in college) Just a thought.

I should look that novel up I don't know exactly why that arrow goes there. I had the apple to represent knowledge, but why I decided to strike it with a missing arrow I can't remember.

Only one phrase for this: mind-bending.
If you'd like something to help cut your addiction, here it is: A recent study has shown that people who spend long hours staring at a computer screen for an extended period of time are more likely to develop eye disorders than those who don't. Said ocular diseases include cataracts, which can cause blindness if untreated.
Once we are blind, we can't do art very well, can we?

So do I, Franci, so do I. But glasses don't make any difference.

OK where shall we start. I like the diverse shading techniques, which keeps the eye moving from object to object, as does the sparse yet eye-catching color. There is so much going on, but the execution seems so effortless that it's not overwhelming - in the bad connotation, I mean. Favorite, for sure.

Hm, this is crazy. In a good, creative way...I like the irony with that arrow going through your scull and leaving the apple intact...I also think your use of colour in this drawing is very successful. Sort of a development of that running-guy-with-a-heart idea...

sorry my comment's late... i have to say this is SO COOL. you are my favorite abstract artist . seriously though, the shading on everything just makes it all pop and the colors are great, not too much but not too monochrome... ish... if that makes sense
anyways, great job!

ahhh Metaphysical stillife ! ...
Is that ME FANG ??! .. ...or do you have a real spider named fang in your corner .... ( that would be weird
)
Wow the sun in Canada is decidedly masculine ! ...down here ...it's female ...( i wonder if it's more androgynous the closer you get to the border ??? )
It's interesting ....and a great way to drum up personal surrealism i think .... Oh and hey ...mu computer shoots arrows thru my head all the time too ... Don't you HATE that ?...i do ..

You, me, and the rest of the world. Except I can't play games... Macs don't play games. More like surfing the interweb and torrenting junk.
But, excellent piece. I love the mechanics of this, the different "boxy" style of shading. I especially like that outreaching hand. Beautiful work.

Starting off once again with what I really enjoyed about this piece. ^^ I really, really like how you've managed to include all of that in the same picture without having it look to clustered. It all seems to me to work together nicely as a whole picture and I believe that is something that is very hard to do.
So I think that part is really good.
I also like the use of colour on this as well - how some places seem to be more coloured in some areas than the rest, and also the choice of colour - the shades of blue look really nice.
I also like it because the way it was done, it would 'appear' to be drawn in different styles, which I think is really neat.
Once again, I've managed not to find anything I think should be changed.
I think this piece is excellent.
