I personally feel like Jack should've stayed in the future. It would've been a more bittersweet ending, since Jack would never fully accomplish his goal. And it would be a good lesson on how the past should remain in the past. Jack would've gotten the happiness he deserved, and Ashi wouldn't have gotten such a shitty end to her story arch.

BTW, when Jack will become king? In older seasons there was one episode about that Jack would defeat time portal guard, when he'll become king and then back to the past. [here] So WTF happened in the last episode of season 5?
