Description
A crossbow I drew a long time ago; I thought it might prove useful as part of my upcoming HTTYD fanfic. This is, unlike other crossbows, an automatic version. The magazine can load up to 20 arrows, called bolts. At the moment of usage, the string must be cocked to the back before loading the magazine; the firing mechanics are inside the crossbow. Inside, a pair of springs are attached to the other side, while a pair of hooks are attached to the string along with a metal plate; the trigger mechanics are what keeps the string and the hooks locked at the back when not fired. When the trigger is pulled, the string's momentum is released and pushes the bolt out of the muzzle. In return, the springs act as a counter-force and by using the same amount of energy the string used to push the bolt, the springs push the string back to the other side where another bolt is ready to fire. The sequence is repeated from then on.
However, there is a drawback: keeping the string in constant motion could cause it to lose the momentum. Quick bursts are encouraged to all users.
I had an idea like this since I started using Photoshop, like a year ago. I thought that maybe a cross-over between an actual crossbow and a modern gun might be cool to try; because I'm fond of cross-overs, particularly mixing old with new.

Oh... well, my crossbows aren't gas-operated; they work under the natural elements of action-and-reaction, push-and-pull, and gravity. The mechanics are all displayed in the description.

i saw that, but if you use gas, from nature of corse, the mechanism will work faster. like van helsings full auto crossbow

Well, maybe it's because during the development of the weapon, the designers didn't mind much about the recent discovery of oil, gas, gun powder, etc. (since after all, this is during the 12th century) only the Lar-row launcher has any significance with the usage of gun powder (as said with the explosive-tipped arrows)
But, if you would imagine it at a certain perspective, it would be kinda innovative enough to make an automatic crossbow without any help from gas or steam power.

nice, but the gas helps to prevent that the bolts gets stoped by each other!

True; there will be complications to the weapon like rusting of the steel parts, clogging (if the weapon has been exposed to mud or other natural elements), etc. But, I'm very much quite concerned in following the fictional timeline; so oil or gas has only been recently discovered. Maybe in the next hundred years, the industrial age would spawn earlier (guns aren't available yet) so crossbows would be gas-powered by then.

Props for innovative thinking but you would lose massive amounts of energy with the design
