Description The lava lady is finally done and I gotta say, coloring her was struggle city but here she is, in all her fiery glory, ready to chew her man out for not bringing her a box of tampax and a 5 gallon bucket of ice cream.

Beautiful work really !
Just wondering what coloring mediums were used as i quite like that style and color effect.

Thank you I used a 24 color pencil set by Koh-I-Noor, nothing fancy. The original was a digital artwork that I tried to redo as best I could.Β

there is a certain pride in creating great art from simple mediums , your potentiality isn't confined within the mediums I mean whatever pen, pencil, etc finds your hand will just spontaneously be forced to create imaginary or dictated art, it sets a great freedom I feel and is somewhat a large goal of mine.Β
I may have to get the color pencil out and re develop this skill.

as i just read that you wanted advice and i thought about something when i saw this work i wanted to share my toughts :
so i really like the Colors and the posture but i think her left breast may be a little too far down(im far from being an expert but thats what it seems like)

hope this could help you in any way and good luck with your novel

frantastic-scribbles In reply to Slithen [2018-05-15 19:17:23 +0000 UTC]

I was drawing her from reference (there's a link to the original in the description if you want to check it out) and yeah, the breasts in general are a little too far down, she's leaning so far back that she'd fall flat on her ass and her left arm is mysteriously missing. Oh, and I totally forgot to color her left heelΒ Β Still, it was a lot of fun to draw her even with the hair/lava being a little tedious to color. Thanks for the advice and good wishes for my novel Cheers!

Β  Scanning drawings is a chore. Most of my drawings are done on 12" x 18" paper. Since the largest my scanner will do is letter size (8.5" x 11")...I found a way to get fairly decent results. I do 4 quadrant scans of my original drawing, and then use the "Photomerge" panorama function in my basic (free) Photoshop Elements program to stitch the scans together. It comes out better than trying to photograph the drawings.
Β  I like the drawing....Kinda' reminds me of the Hawaiian volcano goddess "Pele"......Nice job!Β Β

I've got a scanner at the office that I could use but you're right, it would be kind of a chore to do it for each drawing that I post. Sure, if I were to actually try and sell some of them I'd do it properly but these drawings are just for practice and to track my progress from when I first started about a month ago.Β
Thank you I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I've only heard of Pele because I've seen the movie Moana that heavily referenced her in the storyΒ Β

I spent some time in Hawaii, and I was always fascinated by the Polynesian culture. I just recently saw 'Moana' for the first time...great little movie!Β

This is pretty badass, you should throw it into Photoshop to try to improve the quality of the image. You lose a bit of vibrancy when scanning traditional work.

frantastic-scribbles In reply to SirAgravaine [2018-05-04 00:33:42 +0000 UTC]

Thank you The drawings I've done so far are mainly for practice and to keep track of my progress so I don't really work on them digitally. They are just pics taken with a fairly crappy phone but I'll probably upgrade at some point but for now, I'm really enjoying the practice

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SirAgravaine In reply to frantastic-scribbles [2018-05-04 00:42:48 +0000 UTC]

I'm not suggesting you work on it digitally, as in paint-over or anything like that. I'm just suggesting that you improve the photo (i.e. make the paper white) so that you can see it more how it would look in person in good lighting. You could put 5-10 minutes in for amazing results, with a few adjustments to Contrast/Brightness, Vibrancy, and Levels it would look how it probably does in person.

If you want, I can download this and tinker with it in Photoshop for a few minutes, just to show you what I mean by how quick it takes, and how well it highlights the quality of your renderings.

Ah, my bad, I misunderstood you. I use some of the Instagram editing features before posting such as brightness, structure, highlights etc to make it pop out a bit more but I can only do so much with it. By all means, feel free to tinker with it as much as you wish, or any of the other ones for that matter. Β
