this is frustrating me.i the eyes are too far up and now i have to wait for the paint to dry to fix it D:
arghhhhh.
its one of those things where it looks okay when you're close to it, but the farther you back up the poopier it looks :/
but this is one of the paintings i'm taking to my audition, so it has to be fantabuloussss.
its my first self portrait painting that i've made by observation, so thats why its so... blah-faced
i thought it was going to be really hard to paint from observation, but it wasn't really much more difficult than from a picture.
so yeah i'm going to try to not touch the face again until tuesday, so if you have any critiques, please share!!
EDIT: actually, the eyes weren't too high up, the nost was too small.
but anyways, i added blue to the shadows and red-orange to the highlights.
still taking critiques!!

Don't be afraid to experiment further with your blue, especially in thick, strong strokes. If you think you've gone too far than simply go over it with the previous colour and hey presto - you've built up some texture that other people will think was intentional and pre planned!
I also suggest breaking up that strip of orange to the right as it's quite strong. If you have long hair that falls over your shoulder than you could put a few suggestive strokes in there where your hair tips would be with a feint blue. Or even block in a background and leave the shape of your shoulders and hair. both would be attractive shapes.
