Interesting tutorial and a great method to add spice to photos. The only question I have is how can I replicate this in the GIMP? As far as I know there's no handy Color Matching plugin... Could you describe what those "subtle" differences between using hue/saturation and using this plugin? Thanks and great work!

Hey, I never used gimp before, alhtough I have heard about it. you can certainly use hue/sat if you want, colour match (CM) is just a easier tool, I can't really put into words the differences, so I showed it through picture. You'll get an idea of the differences if you use it.
Well, my attempt to discribe the differences would be that it gives a much more subtle boost of colour, of course this can be achieved through hue/sat, but it requires a bit more of work. I see CM the same as when you increase the colour of your tv screen - more natural.
I would really advice you to get PS if you're interested in photo tweaking. CM is also a great way of setting a foundation for other tools such as Selective Colour in PS

i enhance a lot of my digital photos like this too but in paint shop pro.. and sometimes i think its kinda cheating. cause if you enhance them so much its more like digital art and not really photography anymore.. but i do it anyway. is it bad to strengthen the colors so much?

Well, You still need a good photo to change.
Thing is, I'm limited by my compact digital camera, if I get a nice camera, I may not need to do this, but until then, I will.
But I personally have boundries in which if ?I cross, I will class it as digital art - photomanipulation.

It seems like a good tutorial but I only have 7.0 (not CS). I usually edit using curves, levels, and selective color.

Thakns, I usually do that too, but since there's far better tutorials on those tools, and not enough on Colour Match, that' what I decided to do.

Just wanted to say lovely tutorial. I've been using CS2 for corrective coloring, though I've never used the Color Match before. I'll have to try that sometime.
And now... off to critiqueyness!

Nice tut.
Never thought about using colour match...usually I use a combination of curves, levels and hue/saturation.
Will try it out on next piece.

Wooh, very nice. I usually use psp7 for fixing up my photos... maybe I'll try this with some of them in photoshop.
One very small typo under 'colour match in action' it says "The Colour mathc tool...."
Very nicely done though!
