He makes an appearance in ridley scotts prometheus.
His relashionship to the xenomoephs is currently unknown.
I think he is the first evolution in the xeno line.

The xenomorphs already existed prior to the events in Prometheus.
You see one represented on the wall in the film and the dead Space Jockey from Alien was dead for thousands of years already. Since Prometheus barely takes place around 100 years before the events of Alien, it's clear that the deacon is not the first type of xenomorph.
It probably is from the same family, like an Albertosaurus is in the same family as a Tyrannosaurus, but not from the same species.
Actually, I just looked at the year when Prometheus took place. The movie takes place 33 years before the events of Alien.
